R1100GS Final Drive Bearing

I know some members above will disagree, but IMHO, if you've already gone to all the fuss of breaking into the FD, I'd do the whole job, including a new taper bearing and a set of new seals. You don't want to be struggling to go in there all over again in the foreseeable future, do you ?

The very competent and experienced James of superbikesurgery has done the best FD full-service video on the web. It's rather long so I've chopped it down mercilessly to exclude all his musings. He doesn't really approve of my edit, so if you really need to see the entire 1 hour+ video, just look for superbikesurgery "BMW FD Service". He never mentions re-shimming, just re-using what's already in there.

I understand where you're coming from. I also tend to do jobs in that way, I mean 'get it all done while you're in there'.

But on this occasion I'd say it's unnecessary. And besides it literally takes 10 min to get the the crown wheel in your hands.
