What about using a block charger for the headset. I use one to boost the battery on the Interphone F5 when on longer days out etc.

Use an external battery to charge it plugged into a switched USB
Simplest way.
Gives you enough for 4-5 charges before it is empty but is always topped up when riding.
The two larger Decathlon ones are brilliant value

Exactly what I have done, all be it with a different type of connector that cost a couple of quid. Works a treat and as above, waterproof too.

I could but it's more stuff to carry and I would have to remember to charge it as well.
The USB doesn't cause me a problem.
