Noise from Left side sounds like a bag of bolts

Ah that works :)

Getting this bolt loose was a loud crack and splinters of yellow plastic flyin all over the place,
But I got it loose :)

Those exhaust valves are awful lean running looking to me! They would be well worth checking them that they are actually sealed!!

I am planning to take them out and give them a clean and change the seals as I just happen to have a tool to take out valves :)

Managed to get a bit more done just took me time, checked twice cut the tie wraps once and so on :)

This is where it gets interesting , now I have to take the back off from the clutch lift engine onto table then split it in half to get at them plastic rail things

No you don't!

You can replace them without doing that

Has anyone seen Steptoes post about cutting and shaping the rail end ?

I think that he wants to split it so that he can remove all the plastic debris that might have been blocking the oil pick ups but it's maybe an option to fill the block with paraffin and flush it out a couple of times, then do the Steptoe fix :nenau

I was going to file the new plastic rails but then I thought
Ah sure feck it, I have made it this far might as well carry on :)
After a 170000kms on the clock I want to take a look at the inside just in case and I do need to fish out all the bits of plastic that are somewhere in the end.
Tonight I'll take off the clutch or the back of the engine so I can lift the engine up on the table,
And in the book it says put it on the left side take out a few bolts then put it on the right side and take out a load of bolts, wack it with a rubber hammer and it should come apart :)
Then I'll order the bits I need which I am thinking are gaskets , tube of liquid gasket, those plastic rails,
one bolt which I fecked up the head on and the rubber oil seals for the valves which I will take off and clean while I am at it.
And any bits I come across which I forgot.
Oh and I have to get a torque wrench to put it back together.

Got to do a bit more this week,
It was a bit of a pulling contest to get the gearbox and engine apart, a few choice words helped.
When I lifted engine onto table I managed to break off one of the rubber things on the end of engine between bash plate and engine,

Just needs a bit of a clean and it should be ok.

Its getting smaller and smaller the bike is
a>

same here a bit of a clean and it will be ok, but I will need special grease to put here before I put it back together ?
a>

There is me buddy fixing his spacey he managed to find new second hand used parts for it online :)
a>

This weekend hope to get a bit more done, still have to wait till me Christmas bonus comes to get parts probably :)

Changing that clutch I hope :augie

Cool workshop but did it once belong to an older relative ( just noticing some of the retro 'furry' glamour girl posters there ) :D

Whatever grease you decide on, just use it sparingly on the splines.
You definitely don't want the excess thrown off all over your nice new clutch..

DAMHIK:blast

Nice spot to work tho.:beerjug:

Klübers Lubricants "Staburags NBU30 PTM" is the real stuff - only a pea-sized blob and an old toothbrush are needed.
AL in sunny Andalucía

I read in the book that this has a limit of 4.8mm mine is 5mm the little bolts are nearly flush with the surface

Took this off and put it on again twice as I needed to stop engine spinning :)
a>

Looks a little wet on that seal there
a>

will have to check how to set this back up when I put it back on later
a>

Other side looked a bit wet also

So far so good haven't come across anything yet that makes me think I have made a mistake by taking it apart :)

You've gone that far so it's a no brainer to replace the whole clutch pack. I was going to suggest that you scribe marks to replace the Hall sensor in exactly the same place but too late now.
Also watch out for those crankshaft seals (front/rear) as the newer flat version can be a pain if you don't get them right first time and you don't want them to start leaking (especially the rear) once you have everything together again!
Have a Google around to see various methods for fitting them but if you could borrow/steal the proper tool that would be the way to go :D

I'll hold off cleaning it for now and it should be easy to find the exact position to put it back on then scribe it :)

By the way, I think you'll find you'll need more than one torque wrench to cover the range of torques you'll need. At least I couldn't find any single one that would cover everything.

One of the lads in our little garage has two types small and large which have different ranges :)
