Knowing this bike was sat in a mates shed on the isle of wight for 4 years was painful. but I got it in the end...
Its a 1981 Laverda LZ 125, 2- stroke, liquid cooled (uses a zundapp engine)... shout up if youve seen/owned another. My research tells me theres only half a dozen of them in the country.

I havent got many 'before' pictures, they dissapeared when my old phone conked out. The ones i have uploaded are for reference.

Its all there.. shy of a master cylinder and front calliper. (hoping they show up in my mates shed)

Finding parts has been reasonable..
Needed a new oversize piston as it looks like its been over revved from cold.
Barrel and new piston will be taking a trip to langcourts.
All bearings are available short of a small needle roller on the back of the gearbox input shaft.. turning down a bronze bush to replace it.

More follows . . .

I would suggest a trip to Stafford classic bike show in Oct. you never know you might find some bits. Plus many of the booksellers have hard to find parts lists, which will be a godsend for rebuilding

I'm in.

I remember them...nice looking little thing and appeared to be well made. Glad you managed to rescue it and looking forward to seeing it blossom ....:thumb2

Well! I never knew they even existed! but you’d be amazed how many 16er mopeds there really were :augie

Doing a good job :thumb2

Moped - 50cc or less - propelled with pedals Pre 1977 (FS1E) :) Although the term still remains for modern scooters of 50cc

Anything over 50cc is technically a motorbike the laverda at 125cc is not a moped

The whole Laverda / Zundapp relationship was a bit of a heinz - Cagiva also had a hand in the pile as well

Looking at the range, styling cues were clearly from early Suzuki / kawasaki / Honda bikes of the 70's & 80's

styling cues from a bit closer to home too

It did remind me of the Suzuki X1 50cc that a mate of mine had, especially the gold ally wheels

A few before pictures of the engine.
Crank cases are now vapour blasted and clutch and alternator covers are powder coated.

Had to make my own gaskets as they are out of stock/ no longer available.. Tedious.
