Hi all,

Ive only had my 2008 GS1200 for about 2 weeks and the Wunderlitch (spelt wrong!) spotlights have stopped working! I cant find a fusebox on the bike to check them! Does a GS have one?? LOL!

The green light comes on the switch yet BOTH spotlights dont come on! Odd? They were fine when I got the bike.

Er... any ideas???? I've check an in-line fuse and it seems fine, bulbs seem fine no obvious marks, brown marks when blown.

Please see images below..... the relay looks a tad 'crusty' perhaps the issue??? God knows!!! I have replaced this with a Halfords one but it didn't work (got a LAMP error message with new Relay) and the green button did not light up - I think the diagram on the relay was different to the one on the bike.

Cheers all :)

have you checked the live in and out of the relay ?
there will probably be a live feed from the battery with an inline fuse holder
check that 1st

Thanks, yes the inline fuse is fine (checked), live in to the relay I haven't checked, so will dig out electric screwdriver to see if it lights up :)

Im not even sure if this relay is the issue!

Thanks for reply!

This system also has a switched live feed directly into the loom. (This does not provide the power for the lights themselves). Make sure this connection is not broken as it'll halt everything.
HTH

ps I have literally just fitted and wired these exact lights up this afternoon.

Ooo! Cheers for this! Live feed to the loom? Literally no idea how to find that! Perhaps this is all getting beyond my grasp - I will try to hunt wires backwards to the loom and see if I can find this,

Thank you!

I have these exact lights except mine suddenly want to stay on all the time no matter what the switch is doing. They used to take their feed from the power socket on the front end. Ahh. I had to disconnect them :(

Have you tried swapping the lamps over just to make sure it is not the lamp itself that's faulty?

Nope! Odd that both have stopped working at the same time - If one was out I could replace the bulb but with both down would one go off anyway if the other was off?

Cheers

Oh dear. This isn't a good sign!!! Anyone know an auto-electrician in Newcastle? D'OH!!

Note to self! Read the fcuking thread properly!:blast I have had so much trouble with one spot going out on my GS I looked straight through what you had said and instantly thought it was a similar issue to mine! Apologies:bow

Beer time me thinks!:augie

Check you're getting a +ve output from switch, then check relay for +ve feeds, finally at rear of lamp.

That way, you break it down into smaller sections to fault find.

I'm unsure if they have a common earth return, which is always worth cleaning up and using dielectric grease to forestall any more corrosion.

Quick one to check bulbs is run a feed directly from battery, you only need a quick touch to see if they light up ok.

Good luck.

Thank you for this, but Ive no idea what any of this means - Time for professional help i think! Will post reply here if I can find someone to sort this!

Thanks you guys!

The loose lead I was talking about will be at the switch end of the loom, it emerges from the sealed loom about a foot from the switch, (assuming the loom design hasn't changed). This supply is what "allows" the lights to work.

Bit of an update....which is confusing me more!

Ive changed the relay, made sure all the connections go in the right place, now the switch doesn't light up when pressed and the dash flashes LIGHTF! - bulbs seem fine.

How can 1 relay give a different result to another? Madness!!!

Anyone know a BM specialist in the north east? Ive been down to my local bike shops and as soon as I mention "electrics" and "BMW" there's a sharp intake of breath! No-one seems keen to look at my spotlight issues!!!

Sigh.... :(

Cheers all!

To me, that's saying that this lighting circuit is affecting the Canbus system, ie it's wired in wrongly, and maybe the canbus system is trying to light the aux lights, which the canbus is preventing. Sure you've put the correct relay in and connected the switch and load terminals correctly?

Yikes!! Yeah the relay is the same 40v 12A the diagram looks slightly different but the routing is the same, wires follow to the same diagram locations. Well out of my skills, so off to hopefully see someone next week to look at this!

Cheers!
