Arrrgh!

Knocked off the bike today on a roundabout - my 17 plate bike is on the floor with quite a bit of all round damage & I'm no bones broken, but headaches, sore hip, sore wrist, back feels like i've been kicked by a donkey, but I'm all in one piece.

The lady motorist is very sorry, accepts full responsibility, and phones her insurers to admit liability.

Am i best to deal with her insurers direct (Tesco on this occasion) and let them deal with it, or do I go through my own insurers, and let them work on my behalf.

Advice please would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to tell your insurance. Do you have legal cover, if so let your legal people deal with her insurance for the injuries. If no legal, consider an accident claims company who specialise in motorcycle injuries.

Years ago, it took nearly 2 years for my injuries claim to be settled, and that was just before we were due to go to court. They hold out, in the hope people will drop the claim. It might have improved now though

Yes, I have told my insurers, and i have spoken to Tesco. They both want to help me, Tesco will probably want to cut the claim to the bone, but my insurers will deduct my excess in the short term, and probably recover it later, but may get the better all round deal.

My mate is going through a similar thing and is using a third party law firm for it

The to blame drivers insurance wanted to do it all no doubt because it is cheaper for them than having to pay the legal costs as well as the compensation payout.

Difficult to answer the original question as the blame drivers insurance could see you better off but then again not

No help i know

In terms of the bike it's probably simpler to deal direct with Tesco as no doubt you want it repaired at the dealer of your choice - ring Tesco and tell them this. There should be no quibble over what needs doing.

For personal injury you can go via your legal expenses insurance or bike insurer, deal direct with Tesco (not recommended unless you know exactly what you are doing) or instruct an independent personal injury solicitor. I'd go with the latter if you can find a recommended firm. Personal injury claims can often take years to settle for all but the simplest injuries as you do need to make sure there's been as complete a recovery as possible before settling.
