Sanef tag

Just a pity that they could not use the same tag and have the necessary software to know which country you are in. That would save on the cost of another tag and anount 'annual account fee'

The French tag & beacon always seemed a tad clunky to me. OK for cars, but the system for bikes is somewhat convoluted..... https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/faq/#tag-use-faq-section

If I were to use this, I don't want to be queuing at toll booths to have my tag read manually, nor do I want to use a tag lane where overheight vehicles can pull in behind & corrupt my toll payment.

Sounds a bit negative I know - how do you find in in practice Wapping?

These TAGs have always been available, albeit not widely publicised. It seems that most of the regional French toll companies are now offering this unified service, APRR which I use are offering these https://www.area-enligne.com/Area/abonnement.aspx?site=AREA&lang=FR&page=topEurop&section=topEurop Bip and Go are another company that provide these unified TAGs https://www.bipandgo.com/en/actualites/electronic-toll-payment-spain so its no surprise that Sanif are also offering these. I dunno if the TAGs managed by French regional companies currently in the possession of UK residents will automatically be setup to use the toll roads outside France, but an email to the customer service Dept of your provider will tell if your is enabled. However Sanif seem to be the only company levying an annual account fee, albeit just for the comveience of English customer service, which imo is taking the pee
The early ones I knew of (around 18 months+ ago) provided by the Spanish Bip and Drive toll Company https://canalaltas.bipdrive.com/en/paso1a required you to have a Spanish/Portuguese tax number before you could apply for one, iirc one particular TAG account would allow you to use one TAG for French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese roads.

Very little manned toll booths I've found so discount that section!!
I have used the tag successfully all around France while touring, make sure you pass the ticket booth though as the scanner picks the tag up at the gate itself ( so don't stand like a buffoon waving the taq and stamping your feet at the ticket outlet, like someone i know a couple of weeks back...:blast )
I keep it in my breast pocket , and ride slowly up to the gate at walking pace, and don't have to stop on most occasions as the gate lifts in time. Checked my account when home and all class 5 .

As before....used extensively this summer with no problems at all.....don't think I saw a single manned booth! Wife dangles it in its waterproof pouch over my shoulder and away we go.

Yup used it for a few years and it’s great ! Hardly ever fails to recognise bike rather than car but easily fixed if it happens.
