Chaps,
I’m giving my R100GS a bit of a birthday, and wondered if there’s anything I should be doing of a preventative nature to the engine? I only ask because a mate had the valve head drop off an R65, and the anecdotal cause was worn guides leading to the head fatiguing off as the rotating valve closed in a different place every cycle, tweaking the stem.

Is this a thing? Does it carrry across to the 100 engine? Mine’s done about 45-50k miles. Is there a point at which it’s sensible to change the guides? The engine runs well without smoking or rattling. I’m definitely an ‘if it ain’t broke don’t feck with it ‘ kind of guy for the most part...

+1 :thumb.

At that mileage you will be amazed at the amount of 'slop' in the exhaust valve guide :rob.

Bob.

Richie Moore has sourced valves, springs, guides and seats to cope with the stresses of his 130+HP race motors, and they will be pretty bulletproof on a stock road motor.
Might as well have the best, probably even be worth while having him do a little work on the ports too, so that when it is all done you have a sweeter motor, as well; as peace of mind ----------.

Moorespeed valves and guides are the only ones I'd have in my engines. I've done thousands of miles on them with no problems at all.

Lovely one piece moorespeed valves and colisbro guides in my 100gs. Actually cheaper than the shite that Scriminger fitted in my mates and David Nimrods engines.

Can you just order the valves from Moorespeed Rob ? My mate has his own specialist Aircooled Porsche shop and he uses the local head shop for his valve work for 911 Engines so I'm getting him/ them to sort my 80 Basic heads out. I'd like to fit descent valves / guides for longevity.

You can (or should be able to) The contact number or email is on the site.
