A mate has had a 1000cc v-strom delivered from north Cornwall motorcycles and it had a few issues. They are swapping it for a superior one in their stock. However he is alarmed by the rattling engine noise. He describes it as very rattley when in gear and more so when warmed up but this goes when clutch pulled in.
Is this normal? Also is there anything else he should check on the replacement bike. He’s collecting the bike next weekend.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you.
To clarify - clutch out, no gear engaged. Rattles badly. Pull clutch in, it stops.

If it’s the actual clutch, the noise will happen when lever is pulled.

This stops with clutch lever is pulled so it’s clutch/gearbox related. Noise when driving suggests a gearbox bearing issue. Is it worse in neutral?

It should be easy enough to check - open the clutch cover and check for side play in the clutch shaft.

The 1000's all do that, you can buy a Sharealike clutch mod that stops it, the 650 is a much better engine if you can live with lower power, I've had both
