Iceland Adventure to the Westfjords.

Ok. Thanks. Are you going to be doing another trip like this to Iceland in the near future? I quite fancy a gentle tour! :D
Also, is it better to use a smaller lightweight type of bike rather than an 1150 GS?

A bit early to say just now as it would be good to do a 'full on' trip in the future but also enjoy the more chilled rides.

Smaller bikes are always 'better' than a GS on the majority of trips I do these days but I've seen a few that have been ridden very well, so much of it comes down to the rider.

Although to many the 4th July is Independence Day for me it's the opposite, my wedding anniversary .... perhaps Ange would like a day out in the van.
Does Ange realize that she’s livin’ the dream?! 🤪
Definitely a trip I’d be interested in next year👍🏻 We’ll be in Mongolia 🇲🇳 We’ve been re reading your ride reports😉👍🏻

If anyone is thinking of doing a trip to Iceland my advice would be, just do it, and don’t keep putting it off. I would strongly advice that you consider joining a trip with Tim and Mark you’ll see much more of the country than if you were planning your own trip. I’ve been on two trips with the guys and I’ve loved every minute, even the rain, the only negative is seeing Hatto in his underpants first thing in the morning.:D:D
The cost?? It isn’t cheap to go to Iceland, so remember that and don’t moan about it. This sort of trip is the most cost effective way to see a beautiful country with fantastic people on your own bike. :bounce1

You’ll see some fantastic bikes !!!

For me the best part of Iceland was the Westfjords.

A slight change to the rider list and I'll be emailing you all shortly with more details as I get them :beerjug:

Riders

Me
Tom
Rob
Lee
Toddy
Simon
Byron
Joe
Geoff
Bakes

Just had a call from Simon and unfortunately he's had to pull out for personal reasons so there's a place going if anyone wants it.

Si had already booked and paid for his flight, perhaps that could be transferred to someone else?

Sorry to hear Si won't be joining us Tim. I hope all is okay with him. I can't wait for the trip!

Yes I was looking forward to the entertainment Si unknowingly provides : D

Right chaps, I've just sent out an email to all those definitely going.

A couple of riders have had to drop out and although we don't want the numbers going to be too high, a few others have expressed a real interest but I really need to hear from them soonish as getting the paperwork for shipping etc. etc. is looming fast :beerjug:

For this year's trip I'd say those bikes are fine.

If I run one next year it with be a more 'intense ride' again so although those bikes are reasonably capable it depends on your own experience :beerjug:

Although a few couldn't make it the pre trip weekend proved very worthwhile again with torrential rain and thunderstorms showing any weakness in kit plus getting Tom's suspension set up decently on his CCM 450....after which he rode like a demon! :clap

Unfortunately Byron Had to return early following a tumble which left him with sore ribs, get well soon mate :beerjug:

Our camp 1700ft up on the moors seemed like a good plan........... until the thunderstorm which lasted most of the 2nd night (the first night simply rained) as we lay in our tents it turned out we were all thinking the same thing "Is this how it's all going to end" as the lightening flashed around us :D

Liam rode his CCM 450 very well.

As did Tom later on after his tyre pressures and f&r suspension were set up.

Well upset at having to miss this weekend in favor of travelling to Scotland to listen to a Welsh soprano sing in Russian.

Really want to know what advice was given to Tom regarding suspension settings and tyre pressures (as it might prevent me spending as much time lying on my back next to the CCM staring at the Icelandic sky as I did last year) :jes

Yes you were missed Rob but I'm sure you had a fun weekend 😂

There's 4 CCM450's on this trip and I remember Rupert had handling issues with his last year.

With luggage:
Pre load, just ensure you have a little free sag, we can have a look if it needs adjusting when we're there, ideally you want to have used approx 1/3 of your travel when sat on the bike.
Tyre pressure 22-24psi

Forks and shock.....
Rebound f&r approx 3 clicks in from fully out.
Compression soft to start with dialling it in if it bottoms out.

That should give a good base to start with :)

Thanks Tim,

Tyre pressures were about where I was last year. Right fork leg was at whatever they set it to in the factory, and the left one was at zero for compression and rebound as I never got around to adjusting it after replacing the leaking fork seal...........we are talking about a person brought up on 1950's BSA forks with 20/50 & rusty water providing the damping!

Just popped a nice new Mitas C17 on the front, but still trying to convince myself there is sufficient tread on the rear E09 left over from last year (common sense will prevail before Immingham later this month).

Can't wait!!!
