Just read that all motorcycle clothing and equipment will be classified as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) from April 2018.

May be a good thing as the whole garment will now be tested and CE rated, not just the armour. Probably increase the costs though.

Will it not then mean approved motorcycle clothing becomes Zero VAT rated the same as other PPE ? for example approved motorcycle /cycle helmets and protective work boots

Very nice, if so ill put things through the books as work gear.

I use BKS leathers, they’re approved as protective gear. The cost is eye watering even for something made to measure, however if I don’t put on weight it should outlast me.
This gentleman uses BKS:augie
Ref. VAT, he charged me :nenau

Helmets do not have vat attached to them at the point if sale as it is required to be worn by law.

I’m sure not all PPE itself is not all VAT exempt, it’s safety gear, such as steel capped boots and hard hats that are, but not overalls or coats.

There is a reasonable argument for making m/c clothing that meets BSEN requirements and as such carries CE mark.

It's only compulsory safety equipment that is VAT free.
