I’m now on my 4th set of Trailriders which I’ve found to be all year round fantastic and as good for fast dry work as PR4s.

The TrekRider with their 50:50 capability have caught my eye and with the recent 20% off eBay offer I clicked 'buy now' :D

Anyway here’s a few comparison photo's - The TrailRider is 100 miles old

Would be interested to know how you get on with the trekrider when you fit it

Are they really 50:50 on/off road?
I ask because the (far) more aggressive looking TKC-80 is 40% on road 60% off road. The also aggressive looking TKC-70 is 60:40 the other way.

I noticed my Trailriders have a funy wear pattern emerging

It alsmost as if a band of rubber has been grafted into the centre of the tread to make a hard centre section.

I'll try and get some piccys up later

Mine have all done that and I assume that’s what it is.... the good news is, they have all stayed together :D

My GSA wears the front shoulders faster than the centreline. Tyres with a harder stripe down the middle get a three flat shape.
Continentals with their variable hardness wear more evenly but will still wear out the shoulders before the centreline.

I could recommend the Heidenau K60 Scout as a good 50/50 tyre (as claimed). So far, they have performed extremely well both on and off road.

Cheers,
Rami

I don’t do enough off road to justify the K60. But they get consistently good reviews.

I am currently looking at tyres to replace my worn out anakee 3's which have been fine but thought i'd change and go for a set of Avon trailriders. Trailriders are a multi compound so i'm guessing that it the band down the middle people are seeing?

The Trek riders block pattern looks a bit similar to the old Avon Distanzia if my memory is right :nenau

If it's the rear tyre your talking about, yes the harder centre compound becomes very visible, it's a different shade probably around 40 - 50mm wide.

I’ve been happy with Continental TA2 and TKC70. They are harder down the middle but it’s done by how they cure the rubber in the mould. There is no step change in hardness so less squaring off.
I didn’t like the original Road Attack. Well - It was great when new but horrible when the back squared off. The current versions don’t do that so behave well to the end.

Indeed, but its not a straight band, its almost christmas tree edged in appearance !!

Well I finally fitted them... I really like TrailRiders and had considered staying with them but a nasty puncture and the need for a new tyre had me fitting what was in the garage, the TrekRiders.

First impressions are very good, front does not seem quite as positive as a Trailrider other than that they seem to be a good tyre and if they really can handle some trails even better.

...corrected the front PSI front, now feels good. If these tyres also offer some off-road performance they could be a great GS tyre as on road (only dry roads so far) they are performing very well.

....about 500 miles on these now, and they've done back lanes, fast A roads motorways in both dry and torrential rain. Today they had a couple of dozen local green lanes.

Opinion so far? They seem to offer 95% of what a TrailRider can do with the benefit of what seems to be reasonable off road characteristics.

On the road I’m not yet to where I was with the Trailriders, which I’d become very confident in after 4 sets, but it’s close. No high speed issues with these and in the pissing rain they gave confidence, on wet polished tarmac they did spin up a little (or so the traction control light was telling me). On the dirt they seemed to hook up well, I didn’t find to much mud so really the experience is dry but in places tricky trails.

Dropped the psi to 30/25 R/F on the road I’m using 42/36

I just changed from a squared off Dunlop sportmax trail III to the original trailsmart pair, after 30 miles they dug in and could instantly feel the rubber grip that had been missing since BMW put on the 'recommended set'. I can more feel the road again, decent on wet gravel, never again with the iii's yahooo to the trailsmart!
