The train helped as a time saving measure to enable us to complete the trip within 1 week and a weekend, for me the worst part was driving onto the train, as for the "room" there are larger 4 berth couchette available if I did it again I would opt for one of those as they looked a little roomier I liked everything up until the train!
May have to tap you up for the route, then add another day or two at the end to get back to Calais on the back roads.
As said above it helped buy us some time, it wasn't too bad apart from the loading procedure and riding on there was scope for a nasty accident
