Best investment potential :- Early M900 or R1100S Boxer Cup?

Got a few grand to spend on a bike as there is no point having it in the bank. These are two I fancy. What do you reckon?
 
Monster 900 great bike, however find a friendly guy to take the sting out of the belt service. My Pal does his own he recons everthing inc shims is about £150. Because he has two Monster 600's he went on a course to learn how its done.
 
I have been thinking recently about how the Monster is an overlooked potential classic

Early Monsters are available for not much money and some sympathetic restoration would not cost too much to be off putting.

They are cheap enough that i can see them returning a greater percentage over time
 
Whatever you decide, make the decision on which is your favourite bike. That way, if it doesn't turn into a good investment, you still have a bike you like...
 
Pick the bike you want to ride most, it’s as simple as that unless it’s purely as an investment in which case I’d probably go for the Boxer Cup because they’re rarer.

I’m considering doing some garage exchanges this spring because I fancy owning a decent GPZ900R and I’d get a mint one plus have some spare cash over if I get rid of either my Laverda or Norton.
 
Get a pristine BCR, would be my advice...........

There was a well-specc'd one on here recently.

The first series of Mamola BCRs (single spark) were the only LTD edition ones, but they all seem to fetch good money (Condition, SH and mileage decide)

If you want to retain the investment - remove the bellypan and carbonfibre head covers before riding. If you must - get cheap copies of each to use day-to-day.

Bellypan (if available) retailed at £1,400
Head Covers (if avail) were £400 each, if memory serves.

I picked this up in November. The same engine as the early M900 Monsters and very easy to look after. The belt change is easy to do. Valve clearance is more involved, but if your not clocking the miles up you probably won't touch them for a few years once done.
They are physically small, especially compared to a boxer cup (had one of those as well) but ride beautifully. Definitely a proper bike ;) with bags more character than a BCR....and the sound they make is fantastic :D
 
That man will take money from anyone and obviously has no standards if he’s willing to work for MCN.

Being fair, he has put work my way before but I turned it down because it was a lot of hassle for a grand.

You’d know all about it if he’d asked me to do it but the last I heard it was a Somalian living just outside Calais had taken the job so don’t relax yet.

I assume it was him who put a photographer on my case with me being the one who risked fucking up my motorbike plus I had to find up to 2,000 words that when put together made sense and wouldn’t invite any libel actions so it was never really a viable proposition.
 
I think people are missing your point, your question is "as an investment which is the better bike to buy?"

In my mind the BMW 1100S boxer cup is priced at the top of its game, great bike but to many place a inflated value on it. On the other hand the 900 Monster is at the bottom of the curve and clearly on the rise. Let us know what you do................I have a nice 1995 916 I'm going to sell this spring if your interested.
 
I have a list of future classics and both of these are on it, along with an R1 SP. But I really want a Moto Guzzi Daytona RS. I have an early carbed 89 900 Supersport Ducati and a 996SPS but would love an early M900 as well.

Turned out to be an excellent investment too

Used to have one of these in yellow anything post 97 has US electrics i believe and doesn't have any gremlins. I had a stage 2 DJ and Termi cans. Carbon cans are a no no on these as the pulses destroy the bonding over time apparently.
Belts are a piece of pisch to change 45 degree turn middway and that is tight enough. Standard equipment is much better than other bikes have. The monster as said is the same. If I had to choose between my GS and a monster I'd go for the Duke.

Go on then what and on what basis please? As a former owner I'd like to think I had some knowledge of what I brought and the Duke specialist who serviced it who passed that on.
My pal had the same bike with carbon cans and his started to break down over time. Is it a myth maybe I did say apparently.

Thats absolutely gorgeous! ive had this for the last few years...one off the last 1100s oil cooled, 2010 with 800 miles on the clock, done the speedymoto top yoke conversion and loads of other bits
