Project XChallenge

A few people have asked about the clutch cover upgrade

The standard cover has no central bush and the aluminium bore wears , eventually causing the clutch disengagement to be "sticky" or even lock up

The clutch cover from a later model XCountry has a steel bush fitted and so does not suffer from this

Here are some pictures of the worn bore in an old cover :

and some pictures of the later type cover with the steel insert bush :

What mileage was that at John...

What mileage was that at John...

I've now done this upgrade to 4 different G650X's , this one had 13K miles on it but I have had one in a very similar state at just 4500 miles

This one's clutch action was only just very slightly sticky whilst the XMoto I did at 13K was really bad

Personally I just do the change as default even if the bike has no symptoms

Crackin build.......but your showa stickers are on upside down!

Which one or both as they are different lol . So which way up should they be ? Should we start a poll ?

Good job there was six on the sheet - I have four more attempts to get it right.....

So I have consulted the Decal Oracle who advises that the LHS decal is correct but as deksawyer pointed out the RHS one is indeed upside down

Before I get the heat gun out and re-apply a new one does anyone disagree ?

That's more like it! :beerjug:

Everyday is a school day... :thumb

Been looking back at the pics again and it's a stunning looking bike, I can't help thinking BMW would sell shedloads more if they made them like this...

What's the front mudguard from?

Now I am confused - your saying that is more like it and thats a picture of how it is currently ?

I was going to re-apply the one on the bottom picture so the S for Showa was uppermost i.e turned 180 degrees clockwise ....

The front mudguard is in two separate parts , the blue painted section is a aftermarket part from Horning in Germany and is actually sold as being a beak for an XMoto :

The front grey section is a mudguard extension from Touratech for the standard XChallenge OEM mudguard (Hornig also sell it)

They fit each other reasonably well with minimal tweaking

Some new additions to the HPX - a full Akrapovic system and an aluminium chain guard to match the powder coated swinging arm
