So as a few may know I recently bought an XChallenge off eBay as a winter project . Once finished it will be number four in the G650X collection....

Doesn't look like much at the moment but it will start to shape up over the coming weeks - just an engine a a pile of both used and new parts at the moment

I'll post pictures as I progress through the build

Issue found to date and either fixed already or to be fixed

Two Radiator hoses loose
Thermostat housing cracked and causing thermostat to jam closed
Radiator lower fixing missing
Front sprocket retaining bolt only hand tight
HyperPro rear shock fitted upside down
Wheel rims both have slight warp - with Roy Thursby being sorted
Fuel injector cover cracked and leaking petrol
Idle control valve gummed up
Aftermarket alarm poorly fitted and located behind LHS panel and fouling throttle body - removed and binned
Air box breather pipe spigot snapped off
Valve clearances(exhaust) out of specification
Tyres illegal
Brake pads metal to metal
Brake discs below minimum thickness
Internal exhaust baffles loose and header damaged

Other than these few items nothing a bit time and effort cant sort lol

I now know why I always hire a van to collect a bike rather than ride it home !

That said I did get it cheap in the knowledge that it needed rescuing

My word, you have a bit of work to do!

Out of interest, what draws you to the G650X.

Looking forward too seeing this come together. A lot of boxes from the dealer, reminds me of my spare bedroom a few months back when I was doing my X challenge. Mine is pretty much sorted now, needing work similar to your own. Only thing left is rear master cylinder. Worth checking the piston in yours as mine was totally seized

I really like the simplicity of the bike , being a single Rotax engine - easy to work on , lightweight and more than powerful for what I need it for

I've got a 1200GSA for touring holidays but day to day riding would always be one of the G650X's

Similar to John, as a local bike on either road or trails I find it hard to beat. Cheap, economical and simple.

So much so, I'll be selling my RT come summer as it hardly gets used.

Ah, thanks. I've had a soft spot for these, but have never owned one. I'll be watching this thread with interest and can see myself ever closer to taking the leap!

That is exactly what draws me towards owning one as well, thanks.

I'm in :thumb

I too love the G650's for their simplicity. Great to ride and plenty fast enough in the real world ...

... well for me anyway :rob

I've drilled a hole and put a grease nipple into the headstock on mine to avoid this in future. It's one of the only bikes i have where the grease doesn't try and disappear down other parts of the frame when you pump it up.
