..and that's the key, pre-setting to the correct height (But how do you know what that is for the first attempt? A mate is the answer)

I put the stand on the lowest setting and moved it closer to the bike while holding the grab handle. Then just pumped the jack a little until it was in the right place still while holding the gran handle on the bike.
 
Used the stand yesterday to do the valves on the bike and very happy with it. Perfect height to sit on a chair while completely the checks.
 
I have an Easy Rizer it won’t allow the bike to wheelie or stoppie but is very solid.
A front wheel chock is the easiest way to hold the bike upright.
I have some castors to fit to mine but have never got around to fitting them.
I think the whole idea is so much more convenient than a table lift and there’s no table to get in the way.
 
Having used the stand about 6 times now I think I'm going to get a single sided swingarm stand to make the mounting easier. I've nearly dropped the bike twice for silly reasons but it's too easy to do.
