At approx 22000 miles the rear shock is showing signs of oil leakage. Looking for suggestions to get it refurbed if possible. Bike has ESA. Any firms out there that can do this at a reasonable cost. Many thanks.....Glyn :beerjug:

mine (09 esa) gave up at 17k. firefox in keighly yorks rebuilt it for approx £200. it was still good when i traded it in at 35.5k.

Sorry to hear your bad news

I had one go at about 26k on a 2012 GS. I replaced with Wilbers. No ESA as I could be without the bike for that long. Much better ride that the standard shock.

Regards,

Path.

I believe Firefox fix them and in the process make them rebuildable JJH

I have both front and rear that were stripped for my Wilbers, no leaks.

Let me know if you want pictures.

Only require the rear. What mileage before you replaced them ?

MCT suspension rebuild the Showa and White Power ESA shocks they have always rebuilt the ones that I have sent them and returned them in a few days.

I used MTC to rebuild my rear ESA shock last summer. Turned around in a week and a reasonable price. £174 including FedEx courier.

Is there anywhere that you can take your bike to for them to remove the rear shock, rebuild and refit?

Its off the bike and at an engineering firm I found locally. Should get it back on Tuesday thanks.

Take it to a bike mechanic who you have asked to send the shock away to such as MCT. He will refit it a week later, charging you for labour and storage on top of the cost to MCT.
Alternatively ride to Birmingham and get the Revs guys to fit a Wilbers shock to your ESA system.
The bike can be ridden with a leaking shock, just don’t go scratching down back lanes on the way over.
Final option is a new shock from BMW.

All sorted, fully repaired and rebuilt locally. Total cost e150.:thumb2

A word of warning about “local” MX suspension specialists.
I had a Dutch WP shock rebuilt. He got the internal valves totally wrong so it was rock hard. I needed the transport so used the bike anyway. That caused the bottom clevis to crack. Total cost to fix by MCT would have been almost as bad as a new shock.
