Well we are planning the NC767

Itinerary
Day 1 get to Invergarry.
Day 2 Invergarry to Tongue
Day 3 Tongue to Edinburgh ish.
Day 4 Home

Any recommendations for accommodation in Invergarry, Tongue, Queensferry area?

Is it about right for distances in a day. Looking at about 6hrs riding.

Not much choice in Invergarry or Tongue.

Why not make it Fort W and then Ullapool via Tongue? Much more choice.

Edinburgh-ish could mean Forth Bridge or Kincardine Bridge or Stirling, which offers traveller hotels beside M9 and M876 by Stirling, Grangemouth and Kincardine.

Depending on your preferred route from North to South or vice-versa, i.e. Kincardine - Kinross - Perth - Braemar, etc. or Stirling- Callander - Tyndrum, etc. Both paths lead to fantastic roads.

Central belt to NC is a nice jaunt down the A68 and A696 or A697 of course.
Other paths are available :)

The NC 767 https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...S&ll=57.34713765741533,-4.466499999999996&z=7

You'll need to get in early for any accommodation on the northern part of the loop. We stayed in Tongue last year here https://www.tigh-nan-ubhal.co.uk/ Plenty parking in the yard, great breakfast, let us hang the wet gear in the garage to dry, close to 2 hotels for grub.

That will be a long day back to Edinburgh if you are going all the way along the top from Tongue, down the east coast then The Lecht / Glenshee.

Thanks, longer than 6hrs riding? Good stay north of the Forth somewhere.

If this is the route you are planning for day 2 - I'd be very surprised if you could do it in less than 7 1/2 to 8 hours riding. Others may know better as I've only done the route in full once in that direction.

That's a bloody long day! The inclusion of Applecross and Poolewe really extends the mileage and the time taken.

Ullapool might make more sense, and is a great stop-off point

If you can extend your trip by a day I could recommend a really much nicer way to get from Alexandria to Tyndrum

I would think nearer 7 to 8. It's single track for quite a bit from Tongue along the top so not quick going. Thurso down to Carrbridge is pretty open but once you turn off the A9 your average will plummet.

As others have said, your day 2 is also a fair way. If you're pushed for time and the weather's on your side I would keep the Applecross loop in (count on 1.5hrs for that part alone) but go from Kinlochewe - Garve - Ullapool instead of via Poolewe. I'd also miss out the loop round Lochinver / Drumbeg. It's a good road out there but the road back through Drumbeg is tortuous in parts. If there's low cloud I'd give Applecross a miss, it's not fun going over the tops in those conditions.

Thanks for the insight I will have a bit of a play on Basecamp and see what I can come up with.

I suspect getting a bit further south than Tain on day 2 would allow you to do the Lecht and Glenshee passes as you head south on Day 3(some of the best roads in Britain IMHO).

Once you are on the A9 heading south on day 2 you can eat up miles as it's a proper A road. It can be busy but it's easy riding compared to the North and West coast sections.

Tain is a lovely small town. We stayed here last year

And had a superb meal here...

At Achiltibuie we ate at both the Piping School cafe and had a great burger and desert. We'd pre-booked and were the only people eating an evening meal. The staff had stayed on for about 2 hours for us and were great. Thoroughly recommended

and also a posher meal here.....which was fabulous

And sticking religiously to the NC500 only serves the purpose of being able to tell people in the pub that you've done it. I'd skip the whole JOG section (call at JOG if you want that pic) and do the smaller roads inland towards Lairgs... a great cafe there.

And you'd then be able to ride a superb pass via Bonar Bridge over towards the A9 at Alness??? the B9176 Struie Rd
