Doing some diagnostics on the 1150, and was wondering if a failing HES could cause the fuel pump to cut out? No other symptoms, RID Ok, no tacho jump, etc.. Just riding along and engine dies, then cuts back in. 100kms further on, engine dies altogether. Turn key off, turn key on, no fuel pump whine. Bike cranks but wont fire obviously. Get a tow home and unload bike, turn key, fuel pump works and bike starts. Buggerise about turning ignition and kill switches a few times and fuel pump once again fails to prime a few times. Replaced pump relay and it works now every time, so it may have been the problem, however the relay is now in the horn socket and still works fine in that role, so I lack a conclusive reason. Not too keen to go through the drama of a tow again, based on my location, so thought id ask the question, appreciate your comments, thanks.

Since the pump didn’t turn on with key-on, it doesn’t sound like the HES, more likely it’s the sidestand or kill switch.

Have a jiggle about with the electrics leading to the ignition switch. This cable is fixed to one of the frame points and it is not unknown for flexing due to handlebar turns to break the live lead.
