New ferry Rosyth - Zeebrugge

I remember using the last ferry from Rosyth , god it was slow, arriving in Zeebrugge at about 14:00 and compared to the previous Superfast, was uncomfortable and poor meals to boot.

I'll stick to the Newcastle ferry to Ijmuiden. I've worked it out on various distance travelled to several different first night destinations and the Newcastle usually means less miles when considering the extra distance to Hull(from Falkirk).

Bike + rider costs £500 return. Expensive, but handy. If there's less hanging around in the rain pre-boarding and it's quicker through customs then I'd definitely try it.

Some hope. I'm sure the loaders and port staff get their rocks off by making bikers (and cyclists) wait in the cold, wind and wet

I'm lucky living at the Berwickshire end of East Lothian so less than an hour and a half from DFDS Newcastle-Imjuiden. I just paid the balance of my end of May crossing including meals one person and bike for £240 return.

Ironically I've watched the Superfast and freight ferry sailing past our farm for years but never used it.

FP.

Not sure what it'll be like when it gets going properly but currently it looks as though its currently restricted to 12 bodies.

I enjoy the ride to Newcastle, and my holiday starts with a cruise down the Tyne with a beer in the sun(?), so I doubt I'll be easily persuaded to change.

Off down to Hull via Doncaster, and Belgium with the GGB.....Grumpy Geriatric Bikers....next month....now there's a crossing I wouldn't want to make too often..

Many of the freight ferries here on the Irish Sea operate this restriction too Gérard. I remember being told some years ago that the rules on passenger safety get much more stringent (and therefore expensive) above that number.

Went on that ferry in 2006, it'll be on the list for pricing before booking........Like Mr Watts said the trip down to Newcastle is OK, but no denying its a tempting option

Shit, that is expensive!
I usually spend a day getting to Ashford, Kent and then tunnel it at about 05:00 next morning so I need to pay for an overnight anyway.
I've priced the Newcastle route before and found it too dear for me but this is way more! I'll check out Newcastle again because I hate all the traffic from Barnsley south; it's a nightmare and no fun! But, I can get a very early tunnel crossing and be heading south through France early doors.

I've just checked the Newcastle route:

Out on 25th May and back on 9th June - £701!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'll stick to the shite English traffic and get the tunnel as usual.

I'll go check out Rosyth now, just in case.

Same as me , always use the tunnel after years of ferrys, bloody hate them with a passion!!
Can always mix it up and cross englandshire on the way doon, with some twistys etc , and still get down to Ashford in a decent time, to either stay the night and early doors train or straight over and overnight in France

I've never done the straight over and stay in France but I like the idea of it. I live 650 miles from Ashford so it's a long day to get there but, if the weather was nice, I could do that. Thanks for the idea.

Jesus H.......what was that for bike/cabin/2 people? free drinks :)

Bike + cabin for 1 person.

Where do they get the prices to justify that!!! i doubt they'll be operating that service long, a bike space is small, you can get 4 bikes in 1 car space.....i dont get the huge costs

Just gives you that head start in the morning especially with the plus 1hr time difference. Don't need to go that far on French soil but has it's advantages. Not so bad for me only around the 400 miles plus a mate that lives 10 mins away is always a bonus too !!

Where do you usually stop off in France now that I'm considering it?

I hate the traffic south of the M62, so using Hull is my preferred option as Newcastle seems to specialise in messing you about.

So out on the 31st May to Zeebrugge, come back to Hull from Rotterdam on the 9th June for £460 bed, which includes cabin, breakfast, dinner, bike both ways.

Live 20 odd miles from North Shields but would still rather ride the extra 150 miles down to Hull to get the ferry than give money to DFDS
