I'm looking for a swinging arm for an airhead build. I've spotted this on the inter web and it's just the job. Does anyone know what it is , where it's from. Any information appreciated.

Colin

HPN ?..... they do single sided AND braced twin shocks.....this looks like one of their twin shock swing arms to me...

I was thinking HPN. If it is off the bike in the picture (which i think it is) then Im fairly sure thats an HPN build.

Ok if it's HPN, then there is no chance of getting one. So what is the original swinging arm, what did they start with. Any suggestions...

I made this myself, many years ago, for my 1979 R100RS ...

I believe that they started with a single sided swing arm (mono-shock)...so a G/S, or ST swingarm would do as a start point...
Then the box section second side was fabricated and welded onto the original swingarm.

I could very possibly be wrong about any part of this, or maybe ALL of it.
Personally, if this was for my project, then I’d be speaking nicely to Mikeyboy at Overland and classic....(and saving lots of money over what HPN would charge you, even if they would sell you one)....mind, I could be wrong again, and Mike could charge you the same as HPN .....!

Keep us updated if you go for it...and PICTURES too please.

It’s not based on a mono shaft as the mono is one piece of tube bent into an L shape

As far as I can see,
It’s a bespoke swingarm,it’s not based on anything,
Firstly it’s longer than a twin shock arm, there appears to be no welded in section,
if it was a modified arm the original cutout for the tyre is no longer there,
There is a small clearance cutout further down,
rather than cutnshut an original arm it would be easier to fabricate a new tube.
As I see it,given the tyre clearance cutout on this arm is quite small, prob 10mm ,the wheel rim must be offset to the left by 10 to 15 mm ,given the tyre fitted to the bike.
The step in the tube on the left is there purely to facilitate easier wheel removal(because of the rim offset the hub has to clear the bevel spline before it can be pulled back.
Replicating it would probably be fairly straightforward, the cost however would be high.
As a jig would need to be made(not good if it’s a one off)
But if you are prepared to pay for a HPN one ,it may work out to be viable

The cost was the main reason for us doing it this way,
I may well scallop the arm further down but am undecided as yet,
Clearance will be abit tight with a 120/18 tyre but seeing as I intend to fit a 4.00x18 the clearance may not require too much off set.
I’ll know next week if I can spend some time on the bike at the weekend:thumb
