Does it look like the caliper came off?

Possible that caliper came off, you can see broken lug on final drive and looks like witness marks on caliper as it clashed with spokes, hope the chaps ok,

That was my thought looking at the first picture. Just going out to tap my spokes and check my caliper bolts.:eek:Hope the guy is ok.

Scary to watch, glad he’s OK.
First question, any recent work on rear end, if so what work was carried out, garage or self done?go from there try and narrow it down.

My first thoughts are:

1: The backing plate on that brake pad looks very clean when compared to the rest of the bike

2: Why is there a white line around the treaded surface of the tyre?

17 Reg. About a year old.

Looks like the rear calipers did the damage.

Did he change his brake pads himself? May have taken out the rear calipers to clean and not put on properly. Specs says tighten to 28nm. Does not recommend thread lock though :nenau

Hope the rider is OK.

This was my first impression ! I would ask who was messing with the brake calliper last ?
This is not FD failure for sure !

Sent using my nokia 3210PRO ...shock absorber rebuilder...

Looking at the location of where all the spokes are sheared, the caliper entering them seems a good bet.

Still, hoping he got away with it (physically) and is able to get it fixed.

Bet he gets alloys after that scare, I know I would..............

Thirty opinions and no sign of any sandwiches!
Standards are slipping!

Watched the video and have to say the rider did an excellent job. Panic wasn't an option, a potential life threatening situation averted.

Glad to hear the rider is ok, the metal can be replaced.

The rear caliper bolts are one use only, you're supposed to replace them.
Cant see this specified on my BMW maintenance DVD: are you sure or is this your opinion?

EEK, I wonder if alloys would withstand an errant caliper?
I'm off to tap tap and torque torque before tomorrow morning's ride .

In addition to the above; To test the rearmost calliper bolt, it is necessary to remove the rear spray guard and that'll require re torquing of the three bolts ( I believe 8Nm for the small spray guard bolts and I believe Thread lock and perhaps someone can confirm )

Thanks fredaroony. New bolts it is going to be! It seems They have thread lock on them, else add thread lock. Thanks.

Just highlights the need to RTFM and follow guidelines.
