TAT 2018 on a GS Rallye

Day 10 – Tennesse & Alabama

Day 10 – Tennessee & into Alabama

Right lets get this show back on the road. Sorry for the extended delay, work and life got in the way.
I've now found a way to embed the images directly from google photos, which removes the restrictions recently imposed by photobucket and makes the process faster.

Today's route – 261 miles.

The temp and humidity climb as we hit Alabama.

The gravel roads are smooth and fast going. The GS Rallye is perfect. The linked breaking using just the front lever, those huge Brembo's, the off-road ABS and the auto-blipper for seamless downshifts make it very effective at scrubbing off speed, despite it's weight.

We reach the Tennessee River once again. It's scale is impressive. I send the DJI spark up take some stills.

The trail along the river is great fun, it climbs and descends like a motocross track, without the jumps. I'll post a short video of this section later.

We ended the day at a very well equipped campsite (showers and a shop) at Pickwick Dam.

Day 11 - Sand Trails, Hush Puppies and Catfish

The trail took us through Mississippi and into Arkansas.

We encountered the first sand of the trip.

An enjoyed the quite ‘b-roads’ through rural communities.

We crossed the Mississippi River in to Arkansas and immediately arrived in the town of West Helena.

The town looked quite run down and neglected and there was a strange feeling about the place. A few people stared at us as we rode by and a couple of trucks sounded their horn.

This was the only time on the whole trip that we felt uncomfortable.

This pics from google image search will give you a feel for the place.

We deduced to play it safe and blew the budget on the nearest Best Western hotel. We made use of the pool and the laundry so it was worth it.

I'm really enjoying this report.

I esp like the zoomed out map images, showing that a hard day's travel represents a tiny portion of the entire journey - they really provide perspective.

Keep it coming!

Nice one Mark..
What happened to Russells voice, you edit him out....?
