Any of you boys know your stuff about old school metal?
Mate of mine has bought a 42 Harley wla,
I’m picking it up tomorrow, apparently the clutch is dragging,
I’ll admit I know fuck all about the things:D
But I do have some imperial spanners so what can possibly go wrong:blast

SNAP !
I also know fuck all worth knowing about vintage merkin iron.

But.
If It has a riveted clutch that'll probably be why, pull it apart and have a look , post the pictures up .
I know first hand a common problem with modern sportsters is the rivets coming out and causing the clutch to drag and generally getting into places they really fucking shouldn't.

Alnasdzek.

Hi Alnasdzek,
Thanks for the useful info:D
Given that the owner just had to tell me that he bought it from Bonhams,
I guess it’s fairly valuable?
I could do with gathering some insightful info before tommorrow so I can instill him with confidence that his investment is in safe hands,
He was waffling on about a foot clutch aand foot brake,
how fucking stupid is that idea:confused:
Are they fitted with stabilisers :augie
Can you obtain parts for the thing or do I need to fire up the forge

Pretty well everything is available....that's the good news......

Could try the Harley Davidson Riders Club GB. Lots of knowledge and a lot of WLA/C owners.

I know less than fuck all but did see this tonight at local bike meet which was rather nice :

You can get most of the parts you need from wwag.com or Motorcycle Storehouse. Grizzlys Custom Bikes in Folkestone are also very helpful as one of the guys there specialises in flatheads.

Presumably it's still got the foot clutch? or is it a mongrel I wonder.

Anyway there is plenty of info that covers the basics on Youtube. Unless the drag is ridiculous, might I suggest your mate actually gets riding the thing before getting the spanners out. It has probably been standing quite some while, so plate stiction is inevitable..

Clutch is still standard,
He commented that it felt “loose” compared to when he 1st had it.
There seems to be an excess of play in all of the external moving parts.
It’s coming apart!
