Bought a Denali Sound bomb and an adaptor. But looking at it before fitting I asked myself - why do I need an adaptor? Can I not just use the 2 existing leads to the horn? Any advice or experience of fitting these horns would be most welcome

If you have bought the Denali Sound Bomb then you will need to use a relay to trigger the horn - it draws 20 amps and the CANBUS will not allow that. The adaptor you bought allows you to plug into the CANBUS using the existing BMW plug that you removed from the OEM horn. As you say, you could just cut the plug off and use the bare wires with some connectors to trip the relay. The adaptor is there for those who prefer to preserve the original wiring.

Thanks Smogbob - sorry but the link doesn't work for me. Thanks anyway

Reckless - Thanks. I had assumed that because the present horn has 2 blade (?) connectors that the existing spades on the wires from the bike could be used for the new horn.
Now I just need to find out where the canbus adaptor plugs in to, and I suppose tidy up the existing spades. Sounds OK??????

BUGGER, just realised that it is a Sound Bomb MINI. Does that make a difference? https://www.nippynormans.com/horns-and-accessories/denali-sound-bomb-mini-113db-horn

I've got the adaptor https://www.nippynormans.com/f800-adventure/denali-horn-to-bmw-harness-adaptor

Thanks for your patience

Smogbob, Thanks - now I understand. I didn't want to start taking things apart until I knew what it was all about. Much appreciated :):thumb2

I'm having a sh*t time at work where people aren't cooperating when they are paid to; but I come on here with a question and people go out of their way to explain and answer. Restores my faith in human nature!

Hi Nemo - the Mini is even easier - it replaces your existing horn without the need for a relay - I have one fitted to my GSA. The Mini has two spade connectors - the lead that plugs into your existing horn will mate with the plug on your adaptor lead. You can then crimp spade connectors onto the other end of the wires of the adaptor to fit onto the Mini. If a previous owner (?) - has butchered the connector and fitted spade connectors already then simply connect them to the terminals on the Mini and you will be good to go. You will need to extend the bracket on the Mini to get it to fit in the existing location. Good luck!
