Just renewed with them last week after 20 years with CN and Aviva (Norwich Union)
CN have been getting increasingly expensive - this year's renewal was £725 up from about the normal £450-£500 for 5 bikes (incl some higher risk off road bikes) for a rural post code and o50's rider and a 20 year NCD
Bit salty, so haggled back down to about £560, after a few calls (= waste of my time)
Worst thing was a new CN/Aviva clause about being garaged at home address whilst unattended - not just the usual 10pm-6am garaging clause and they wouldn't budge on it - so watch it on your policies !!!!

Someone here recommended RH so called them and what a breath of fresh air - people who you could converse with, plus senior underwriters who would call and email you to discuss and confirm mods etc
Sensible insurance - no asking for pillion cover - if a bike had provision for a pillion then of course you can take one - no charge
Garaging between 10pm-6am only
All mods listed on the policy schedule on full and fitting stuff like replacement suspension was ok
Premium was sensible - similar to CN £550 but the quality of the insurance was infinitely superior and still included full uk and Europe breakdown and legal cover
Only downside is they will only cover you on a modern bike if you also have an older bike (over 15 years old) on the policy as well - so they just won't cover just modern bikes on their own

Will give them a try John - looking to insure the old shed and, because of the mods (ie PD tank, Ohlins, seat and front brake upgrade) all the companies wanting £150+ ... I’m only paying £100.00 for the 1200 for goodness sake!

Your 1200 and airhead will be fine
When you discuss mods, call the Ohlins 'replacement' suspension as the oem was 'worn out'
No fee for adding bikes along the way either unlike CN who charge £40 each time plus the risk adjustment

Just had my renewal 'invitation' (nice parlance and I like the cut of their jib) after 1 year with RH/Hiscox/ERS

What I do like is their 'plain english' in the paperwork and everything laid out and up front - the sign of a good business in my eyes

All very fair and equitable and the invitation is £20 cheaper than last year too - so I shall be renewing

I would have (not using the preposition of incorrectly as a verb) renewed if they were more expensive too, as I like the way they operate

I agree, JB.

I had my renewal in June, exactly the same. Good, professional service all the way; far removed from the stack it high, flog it cheap, merchants. I had a question about my renewal, which the young chap on the phone (he wasn’t on the underwriting side) couldn’t answer there and then, about a car being kept permanently on a drive, miles away from where it is usually garaged. To cut a long story short, rather than leave the vehicle uncovered for theft / damage, they agreed to hold it covered for overnight and through the weekend, through to the end of the following week and that the underwriter would call me to discuss it on Monday. As good as the lad’s word, the underwriter called me, we chatted through the details and full cover was confirmed. The paperwork confirming the alteration was with me by email within 15 minutes thereafter.

I can only compare it with the disastrous experiences I had with the chimps at Devitt, which involved me dragging in the IBA to sort the mess out. They failing to understand that sending me someone else’s cover note was about as useful to me as a chocolate fire guard. Them refusing to acknowledge that they had not sent me my documents at all and then, to top it all, missing two out of the three bikes on the policy out entirely; three times! A shower of shite.

Interesting, I had a conversation with RH, very helpful young chap, however somewhat puzzlingly they could not insure my GS or K1600 unless I had a classic bike as well on the policy. I quoted two people without names (JB and Wappers) who had policies, and to my knowledge they didn't have classic bikes, and was told that 'we don't do those policies now'.
Classics were over 15 years old, so I offered to put my 2001 Speed Triple on the policy to see how that turned out, but was told that wasn't a classic.
A bit odd, not much ventured, but a bit odd.

Not an unhappy ending as CN quoted lower than the previous years' in the end. Hey ho.

If a “classic “ is by their definition “over 15yrs old” then they have to offer terms.
The call will
Have been recorded due to it being for cover so get them to go back over it.

They, the insurer, are not obliged to (have to, as you put it) offer any terms at all.

If they didn't want the business it would seem pointless taking them to task on it. "Oh alright then, if you insist, yes we'll cover you for £22,459 per year.."

Quite.

As I say, not really bothered, just a little strange. Guy seemed decent enough, others may have better joy. Certainly wouldn't rule out trying them again next year to see if the wind direction has changed.

More most excellent service from RH today

I have had an old Yamaha Trials bike for a couple of years, that I have been meaning to get road registered..........so as my MOT man (who understands Trials bikes was packing in, I decided to kick myself up the jacksie and get on with it)

Mot was done, a few weeks ago

So I engaged a man who specialises in getting bikes registered (either imports or old bikes) to sort the paperwork with NOVA etc and sort/fill the forms in, so I have to do is send the fully completed forms (by him) all to DVLA with the VED & Reg fees and bingo, it's got a Reg plate

All done except the insurance side

So I phone RH Insurance today and asks all about it, no problem they say - we can provide a cover note on the frame number and then when the reg numbers comes back from DVLA, call us back ad we will issue a Fully Comp certificate until renewal date (July 2020)

She takes all the details and says she will refer it back to the Underwriters, then call me back

She calls me back at lunchtime and says the cost will be £5.60, to add the bike and issue a Cover Note ...............well chuffed

I asked if that was just for the Cover note?

No she replied it's for all year, until renewal in July 2020.............just call back with the reg number and we'll email you a proper road insurance certificate when you hear back from DVLA

Well done RH Insurance Services :thumby:

Having read about RH on this Forum I've also just switched to them. Less expensive than previous Insurer but allowing unlimited miles on the GS, with restricted mileages on my Blackbird and classic Ducati.

Also includes full RAC, Pillion cover, reduced Excess and only have to lock the Bikes in Garage between 10.00 pm and 6.00 am instead of "At all times".

When the emailed Quote came through it showed that the B.B. was listed as "Agreed Value" apparently because I valued it below £3,000 so "A.V." came automatically. The Ducati being shown as Market Value as it was valued at £11,000. Sent them an email with photo's and copy of an Auction sale in 2017 to support my valuation, asking how much to cover this Bike as "A.V." within minutes had an email with new Quote confirming "A.V." at no additional charge.

So far very pleased and with no Admin Charges, Bikes and other things can be changed mid year at no extra cost other than for changes to Risk.

JohnnyBoxer....you don't need insurance to register a bike anymore, unless you're a NI resident.

Good shout about RH....my Footman James multi classic policy is up for renewal in a fortnight, so I'll see how RH compare. :thumb
