As for the Pikes Peak article you can see it in different ways.
Chris Fillmore is the only professional racer here racing KTM's RC8R in AMA Superbike until KTM decided to pull out because they were not "Ready to Race" or tired of loosing...;)
Chris Fillmore should have won against all those amateurs like he did on the 1290 before...
A good rider like him can overcome a 75 hp difference and be still faster than a guy on a 180 hp machine in this real world environment. You can still kill yourself with only 105 hp...:D
No GS was a the starting line;especially none with 17 inch wheels right from the factory...;)
Would be interesting if they let Fillmore ride the GS,1260MS and 1290 KTM and then compare times !
Tanneman the R1100S being the best BMW ever made...I'd agree with you if BMW had ever upgraded it.But unfortunately the 1200 cc engine that runs smoother and stronger, more ground clearance, gear indicator and maybe 3 liters more in the tank never came...
The GS you can ride faster and more comfortable doing so.
The R1200S had a power band like a RD 400 (you had to keep it between 6-8000rpm),even smaller tank, cute little bags and no centerstand...:(
Hope the rumors about the R 1250 S are true and they learn from their mistakes and make a S boxer that is good looking, fun on track days and still practical enough for the holiday trip...:beerjug:
Or the GS with 17 inch wheels will do...straight from the factory of course...;)
If not the S1000XR in triple black looks mighty fine despite the chain...
It's all good...:thumby:
I'm sick of hearing about 17inch wheels!!!

Nutty & Arsey you truly live up to your names...:thumb
If Ben Purvis is right with his 1250 GS article articleI'm good with it...:thumby:
Let's see what KTM & Ducati does to get their bikes Euro-5 compliant to appease the nutty arsecracks in Brussels...:(
I just hope the alphatechnik VVL GS was not only a test-mule for the new heads to come but also for the "factory 17-inch wheel package" with the right geometry and no loss of ground clearance...:thumby:

In my humble opinion, if it does have a 17 inch front wheel they should remove the G from the name.

How many off road capable bikes have such a small wheel?

This makes it a different bike for a different purpose. Totally lost the concept from the original.

How many 1200 GS are really ridden in the dirt ?
Nothing wrong with the 19 inch version but for people who only ride on tarmac the 17 inch front makes it quicker steering and you get better rubber for track days.
I'm o.k. if they call it R 1250 XR...:thumb

lol You will probably find more people who ride GSA 1200 in the dirt than use them at Track days .
But I agree for people who only use them for road touring then 17in is the way to go.
But its that thing about style over substance.
It has to look the part no matter what the compromise.
You just have to look and see the people who go on about how good the Anakee 3's are to see that.

There has never been so many different categories of bikes available,I'm sure there is something to suit everyone's different needs,so why the fuck you would want change use a GS for something it wasn't intended for is a mystery to me! I like my GS but there's no denying the GS is one slow bike!

I find the Anakee 3,s do their job OK, maybe not to everyones liking, but when you aint a riding god, they are fine.

Boxerlost, nobody in their right mind buys a GS to take on tracks days.
You really are beginning to look even more ridiculous now. Carry on for another 50 pages though.

The TL Shows its limitations on very high speed corners..Fabulous handling Bike but no track toy

Tyzer if the farmer can't swim it must be the Speedos fault...:D
Never seen any videos of Juergen Fuchs on a GS-LC on a track giving guys on real superbikes a hard time ?
I tell you what the GS is a very capable bike on the track because of boxer crankshaft position that builds up less gyro,TORQUE everywhere and T-L !
Only 125 hp and barn-door like aerodynamics hold it back on longer straights...
One slow bike...trust me it's not the bikes fault if you are slow on a GS !
Of course more power, less weight and 17 inch front wheel would make it even better...:thumb2
10 years ago back in the days of the R1200S which is basically a GS with different Tupperware you could run easily with GSXRs,Fireblades and R1's on track despite having 40 hp less...And that was because of the TL and not despite of it !
Of course in 2010 when the S1000RR came out and made close to 200hp made rideable by ESA/TC/ABS the rules changed...and even I defected...;)
But a good rider like Fuchs can still play with these guys on a GS...:thumby:

Rossi on an FS1 would beat me around a track on an R1.
But so what ?

So you want 17” wheels ? You’ve not mentioned it before !

Arsey I want it all...150hp,40 lbs less and 17 inch wheels...in triple black...:thumby:
