Hi
I’m new to forum and wonder if anyone might be able to help me, I have a 2005 r1200rt with an abs issue, the original fault was the abs releasing under heavy braking (the wheels weren’t locking) and the brake fault light flashing after. Since then I’ve totally flushed and bled the system (all 4 circuits) just test rode it, bike seems ok until you apply very heavy braking on rear circuit then fault light comes on and servo stops whining (rear circuit only) front seems fine. Bike resets when power turned off, seems ok until heavy braking re-applied to rear.
I’ve invested in an elm327 reader and motoscan software, however fault code given means nothing to me (wheel circuit rear code 618c) anyone any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks in advance Tony

Thanks John

Was hoping as it’s a common fault across multiple models and variants someone may have had the same or similar issues on an 1150 or 1200GS for example.
Will take a look at the links you supplied

Regards
Tony

I has similar symptoms on my 1150RT and i tried every type of fix including flushing the system and sending off to “specialists” who claimed they could fix it, but it wouldn’t produce any meaningful diagnostic codes and no one managed to improve it. I eventually bit the bullet and decided to replace it. Motorworks in West Yorkshire were fantastically helpful and a source of useful info and called me to say that had a second hand unit i could buy at a significant discount off a new one. They did say the unit was impossible to test first, but if it didnt work, I could send back for a refund. It worked a treat and solved the problem. These units are absolute bastards...

Like Puggy, my 1150RT had problems and I decided to remove the iABS system altogether and ended up with a much better braking system.
mtg, you say you were 'hoping as it’s a common fault across multiple models and variants' well it was, and that is why so many of us removed it because when that iABS fails (and they do), it is very frightening.

Yes +1 to that. ABSectomy is a perfectly valid approach and what i planned until I found a second hand unit. Lots of info on how to do it on this forum and other. Google is your friend.
