Thinking about heading to the Pyrenees next year,
Initial thoughts are ferry to Bilbao,
Then following the Northern part of the TET to tremp and basing ourselves there for a few days to explore the trailriding in the area.
My question, has anyone here ridden that section of the TET in Spain ?
Is it worth spending the extra time to bimble along it or would we be better off just getting to tremp in one day and having extra time on the trails there?
Thanks in advance
Mike:thumby:

Haven't done the TET, sorry. But there's a lot of tracks & trails around Tremp :thumb

Having stayed in a few places around there my favourite is a couple of miles south of town - https://www.hotelterradets.com/en
Right on the lake with clean rooms, a bar & the half board is very good value

I'm going for a couple of weeks shortly but intend to ride trails on the Spanish side.

Think I stayed there when I went on the Vince last year,
Got all the maps of the area, fully marked up from the event.
The decision is either to follow the TET and take a few days to get to tremp,
Or do the journey in a day and have extra time on the trails

You need Simon Rice/The Spanish Biker to answer this for you. The expert on this (and based in Tremp). Check his website or hang around here and if the timings work, he'll let you know before you go

The TET forum on facebook will probably give you a better response Mike. Although admin seem to prefer the website for such things.

Mike, Me and me mate John went around that area last week. Stayed in the Can Josep Hotel in Sort. Its nowt flash but clean and great food for less than 40 quid a night BBEM. Rosa said we could keep our bikes in their massive garages under the hotel as well. We had a big van for the free parking as well. Going back we the wife in 3 week = its that good !!!!!!!!!!!. We will have a natter at the next breaky.

If you have time I would recommend taking in the Bardenas Reales and Monegros areas - search on You Tube to get an idea of the unique landscape . Loads of trails in both areas. I have downloaded routes from Wikiloc . I have not found any paper maps that are the equivalent of the Catalonian IGN used by Austin Vince. Another alternative is to stay in or near Ayerbe North West of Huesca where again there are a number of good trails and Castle Loarre is worth a look . There are trails that run east from here that would take you towards Tremp but i have not ridden those . This year i stayed in Sancho Arbaca near Tauste and in the campsite at Roda de Isabena where you can rent a chalet - they also hire BMW road bikes . Good trail riding in this area but my brother struggled on few trails with his 1150 GS .

Enjoy

You'll love the TET Mikey, then let's meet again at La Pobla ...

Hi simon,
Provisional plan is to ,
Arrive Santander,sat 14th sept,
Leave Santander on the Sunday and take 3days on the TET to get to tremp where we will then have 4days on the trails.
Then 2 scenic days back on the road.
Will definitely call in to the camping ground at La Pobla if you will be in residence.:thumb
Do you think 3days is enough time ,no problem to jiggle at the mo as nothing’s booked .

Hi Mike,

Three days would be hard going, especially a spy then we might have trails from Santander itself! But you can always add more road sections rather than follow the trail 100% - some people seem to either like the fact that the TET has some road sections (to cool down!) or add in their own, for instance avoiding places they've been to already such as the Bardena Blanca - hard as it is to imaging missing that!

We'll certainly be in Tremp at that time and we're keeping the camp site option with the specific aim of using it for socialising ... :)

Here’s a screen shot of the trail riding route mapped by Simon todate,
As you can see it offers a very different route to get to the southern Pyrenees if riding a suitable machine

Keep your eyes peeled Mike, there's a significant upgrade in the offing! :)

PS have you still got the pink Funduro?

It was red:blast
Quick question Simon,
Due to the ferries being booked up,we have had to extend our trip by 3 days:comfort
So,
In order to follow the TET route from Santander to tremp ish,
How many days would you allow at a nice relaxed pace?
I think we will have enough time to follow the route all the way, then take a rest day and then base ourselves somewhere for the remainder of the trip, with a road ride back to the ferry.
We will all be riding airhead specials:cool:
The red ones mine,
The white/green one is tufty’s
The other two are being built now:augie
So we will be travelling very light,
I’ll prob be back to pick your brains for overnight stops enroute.
See you in September :thumby:

Hi Mike,

Most people do about 150 kms per day along the Pyrenees trails but if you want to take it easy on thise - lovely! - bikes you might wnat to take the odd detour on tarmac over to France. Note that by next year there will be another trail running form Estella to the Pyrenees (all in Navarre) where it will join an extended France coast to coast TET, so you can chop and change a bit.

I'm keeeping the caravan at La Pobla and if you soend a day or two there maybe I can show you around some amazing trails there. But on you way back to Santander a good base could be Cervera de Pisuerga, whis is a 'starting point' for the TET heading further west. It's a lovely little town/village and there are grat road routes all around there. Otherwise on the coast there's a village called Comillas that is absolutely stunning!!!

Keep in touch and I'll come up with more ideas nearer the time, meanwhile by then I hope tyo have something like this to tickle your fancy, do you know what it is?
