08 1200GS drive shaft question - what is wrong and can it be fixed?

It's not a seal, it's the bonding rubber used to bond both halves of the driveshaft together. Has a little bit of give so it acts like a cush drive between gearbox and final drive. Metalastik joint.
Too many runs at santa pod will do that.
 
Thanks. Haven't found anything specific about the internals of the drive shaft but figured there was some type of cush drive in there. Not clear to me if internals damaged, although that does seem likely if what is shown in the photos is not a seal but a part of the rubbers. Had another look at the Motorworks reconditioned driveshafts and their wording didn't look promising - says driveshafts can only be exchanged for reconditioned items if there is no damage to cush drive rubbers. If anyone knows for sure I'd be keen to hear. Thanks
 
yes, thanks. But only makes sense if this issue also fixable. would have contacted him to ask but it's a long weekend so thought it better to post on here with the question
 
ANswer: cush rubber split and needs to be replaced. Earlier signs of this were some backlash at throttle-on
