If one does the Pyrenees, is it an issue to find B&B's as you travel? Never been there so no idea. Always managed to find something, but I'm wondering how often you come across accommodation options??

So, in Spain, are places called B&B's? Gites-de Spain? Or just Hotel? What to look out for?

I like the seat of pants travel rather than booking ahead. Had both issues - wished I'd booked somewhere and wished I hadn't! Difficult to plan how far you'll get when it gets twisty.

Just keep one's eyes open and use a smart phone.
One can't go wrong.

Spanish B&B's (or their nearest equiavalant) are known as Casa Rurals LINKY

Like you I travel out of season and never (well very rarely) book anything ahead, I've not yet had a problem finding anywhere ~ Timolgra has it nailed :)

Booking.com is probably a good site to use.

Also don’t be put off by anything referencing Hostal which means guesthouse in Spanish.

You should find plenty of very cheap and good accommodation on the Spanish side.

I prefer the Spanish side of the Pyrenees for overnight stops.

Don’t forget to do the N260 route.

Beer and food is cheaper as well, plus restaurants and bars aren't closed by 8pm.

I heard the other day that Spain has been asked to move it's meal times to fit in with the rest of Europe! I doubt that's going to happen.

Thanks for the info guys.

Is the N260 THE route? Ride mag had something and also the new TomTom 550 seems pretty good...looked at their website and there's a suggestion or two on there.

Starting Santander, first night in San Sebastion and then 4 days in the Pyrenees leaving 3 to ride up through France to the ferry. Suggestions from experience very welcome :D

We've stayed in Bossost in Spain twice, once in The Shadows Hotel and once in Hotel Batala. Both hotels have garages.
There are plenty of bars for a small town. It's a good place to stop after travelling west to east along the Pyrenees.

From here we went south to the N260 and headed east, this is an amazing road with bends so tight I'm sure I saw my own back wheel at one point.
We stayed in La Seu d'Urgel in the Hotel Avenida, again a hotel with a garage. A larger town with plenty of bars just a short walk down the street.

We headed north next to Meyrueis and stayed in the Hotel Sully, yet another garage, can you see a theme here?

You asked for suggestions these should give you a start.

Enjoy your trip.

Steve.

There's far better roads than the N260!

Well, this is will be my only big trip all year! This situation WON'T happen again!

So if you can post or pm me a stellar route I'll send you some beer money :)

One at a time now :D

That's all you'll get from me too :D

Tim's right though, the best rides will be where you think 'I wonder what's up that road/track'? FFS you're in the Pyrenees, they are mountains, they have twisty roads with elevation changes and views to die for. Everywhere.
Do you really want to tread the same N260/whatever route that all other bikermates slavishly follow or do you want to have the fun of discovering your own cool roads, roads that you'll remember as 'your special road' 'cos you feel like you discovered it :nenau

You'll have to be trying very hard and be incredibly dim not to find a good ride! You won't 'miss out' on anything, really, trust me I'm a doctor.

Sniff a road out like this and you won't see another vehicle pretty much all day.......

Appreciate that, but never been there before and I guess I just greedily want to make the most of it. Pointing a finger in the air and missing possible good stuff would make me sad

Yeah, I get that, but really there's nothing to miss as it's ALL great out there. You'll have a ball :)

Having said that there's loads of recommended routes in the travel section on here if that's your thing :thumb2

Agree with Outtomunch you really can’t go wrong by following your nose.

But if you are after a recommendation take the A-136 north out of Biescas follow it all the way to Laruns then head east on the D918 all the way to Arreau from here make your way to Viella :thumb2

If you stay in San Sebastian then try stay at the Mercure Monte Igueldo for a stunning view over the whole city/bay while you have a beer on the terrace.
