anyone taken the exhaust flap out of the pipe,
been told by adding a decent end can it helps breath ?
any thoughts,?:augie

It will help flow a *tiny* bit at high revs/large throttle openings, but it will make things worse (and noisier) at low revs/smaller throttle openings.

If it's jammed shut it'll be a problem.

It it's jammed open, less so.

As long as it's working, leave it alone.

De cat headers will improve performance and sound throaty on a standard silencer,
Ideally a re map or similar to sort fuelling,

When i had my Lc gs hiltopped it was running lean, the r may be different?
Later fitted the remus de cat headers and noticed the difference,
Regarding the exhaust flap, it appears to be mainly for noise surpression,
When they start sticking headers are being replaced,,
At that point undoing the cables and leaving open if out of warranty could be an option,
You could disconnect the cables and try it for yourself it is easy enough,
Having gone back to a twin cam engine in the 9t,
the exhaust flap looks much neater on the Lc engine in your R,

went to hill top last week, poss having the ecu done soon, what do you think ?

If you do get it done of be interested in the outcome

I'll admit to being a little sceptical, mainly because whenever I've seen before and after dyno curves, the after typically has a very similar shape to the original but with more power/torque.

Not a problem in itself (indeed very laudable), but the original curves typically have a slight flat spot engineered in that aligns with the point at which noise testing is done (you'll notice a dip in the torque and power curves), and that's often still there in the remap even though there's no need for it.

Speaking from experience,
The driveability and torque available after hilltop is a mod i would do again,
Fuel economy although subjective appeared to be about the same,
That was a standard exhaust etc no mods,
the de cat made it even more urgent but not essential, but sounds nice on standard silencer,

said they all ran rich ?
i would like the bike with more torque .

I'd expect Geoff to say they all run weak, because modern petrol engines, car or bike, run on the edge of damage in order to reduce emissions. He told me he'd never had a single bike, of any make, in standard spec., that was running rich.

i my have miss heard him then.
still need more mid range though, have you had one done your self ??
