who else goes off road on the old gal

As good as 1150s are they're not the best in sand....

I had the same circumstance while making a deviation through sand while riding my 1150gsa in Saudi. Stuck up to the rear axle. Also had luggage aboard.
Luckily help was available through some locals to dig and lift me out.

Had a good six hours out on the lanes of norfolk yesterday to see what it would be like on better tyres, the bike did well dropped it a few times and the wind deflector decided to say goodbye but other than that its more than capable of doing the flat easy norfolk trails had a blast.

2014 GS and a 2018 GSA just finished some easy off road in Kielder Forrest. The GSA had only 100 miles on it when we did this trip. Lots of fun but a dirty bike
 
If anyone is interested I have 37/11 final drive off an 850 for sale which makes the R1150GS far more driveable off road.
