After selling both my CT90’s I’ve bought a 1970 Kawasaki Bushwacker 175, I saw it advertised about four months ago and have kept my eye on it since then, I’d never heard of one before but thought it was a very pretty looking bike. Its unregistered with a Nova cert etc, originally from Iowa. I’m amazed at the condition of some of these American Classic imports,I have a 1975 DT175 Yamaha which looks like it’s been kept in a showroom all its life, original Yokohama trail tyres which still have some of the little moulding knobs on, the Kawasaki looks to be the same condition.

So was this an auction where you bought it?

Love it! Will you ride it, given it's immaculate?

I haven’t had it delivered yet,I’ll register it with DVLA when I get it if it’s nicer than my DT175 then I may sell the DT and use the Kawasaki.

I bought it from Dave Silver, I’ve registered with Mecum auctions in Las Vegas, I keep an eye on what’s selling and prices they go for , then I just look through the UK classic dealers, the Bushwacker was sold in the Mecum auction at the beginning of this year, so I knew what it sold for and managed to get a good deal from Dave.

DT

It’s a 1975 model 550 miles on it, looking at the condition, could well be genuine.

Used to commute on a DT175 in 1981 so bought another in about 2000.

Boy did rose-tinted memory and actual reality diverge🤪.

Quickly flogged it to an enthusiast!

Now that Bushwhacker is a sweat looking ride but I dont think I could go as low as a 175cc :D

The DT has had the low front mudguard removed so the one on is not the original look ,it still has the location figment holes in the forks to fit the lower guard so if authenticity is your bag get shopping an fitting:thumb2
Nice bike though I remember mine from 1978 :)
Probably an import you have there with those humongous indicators .

Yes ,it’s a US market bike, 3/4 length seat with luggage rack, high level front guard, different rear light, but I think the indicators would have been the same.

Yeah, I dug out the UK sales leaflets for the model that followed this, and the one after that. they both had substantial indicators and similarly mounted, but possibly a size smaller than yours.

Other than that I think the UK/US differences were minimal. I VERY much like your bike, by the way! Any of the DTs are so desirable now.

Here we are, I thought I had the correct model year somewhere.

Sorry about the poor quality - the original image is only about 2cm long.

Interesting to see how Yamaha included their entire range on their marketing collateral, not just road and trail bikes but TZs, MXs.. the lot.

What you CAN see on all these DTs is the difference between the front shells that have the 'tunnel' for the bulb shaped into them, contrasting with the rear ones which were all hemispherical... just like yours.

I had the bike delivered on Monday, according to the title paperwork,it came from a private museum in Dakota, there’s a couple of jobs to do, new petro tap, I’ve ordered a carb rebuild kit, changed the fork seals, and I’ve ordered a new rear lense from the states.
I put a new battery on it and it started second kick, sounded really crisp,I didn’t run it for long as the petrol tap was leaking slightly. Its got a really nice patina, but would be an easy restore to concourse.
