I will shortly be paying Eire corporation tax, because of a :cock up called Brexit and I need to organise an accountant (sage line 50) & Insurance broker, neither of which my UK providers can do.

Note the accountant will need to be able to undertake R&D tax credits which rules out the smaller practices. I also need specialist professional indemnity which puts all sorts of jitters up a lot of the usual suspects in the UK.

I would welcome recommendation from Irish members :aidan

Eire is a very old name for The Republic Of Ireland. Your professional body should be able to point you in the right direction for instance. I presume that most large accounting firms would have international connections and your current company should be able to direct you. JJH

Accountant http://brophygillespie.ie/ ask for Aidan. I used them for years before selling my business. They are a young company and very agile. I was an insurance broker for 35 years. Message me your needs and I'll pass them to a good General broker.

Luke knows insurance

When i had an insurance issue last year, Lukes assistance saved me a lot of time, stress and grief. ;)
... Oh - and money! :D

So is Eire technically incorrect and should I be using ROI? because the North may or may not be leaving with the rest of the UK (or may not) i need some way of differentiating

There is no country called ROI or The Republic of Ireland. Our country is called Ireland or Eire. Then there is Northern Ireland which is part of the UK.

To further confuse matters, the island in its entirety is also called Ireland.

I'm deeply offended on behalf of my ROI peers :aidan

Having done several UK R & D claims, I would assume the rules are pretty much the same as it's an EU sanctioned thingy, I can't imagine why you would consider it to be beyond the smaller practices :nenau

Sorry spike, I know R&D is a doddle but what i don't need is a one man band as such - how I tell the men from the boys is ask them about the patent box scheme, only the taxman could make something this simple so complicated!!

Just a Suggestion .

I would very strongly suggest you find an Accountant practice in the Border area , where they are familiar with
accounting practices both in the UK and Ireland . I have two such gents in Mind . Both Particulary astute gents , and Knowledgeable on a multitude of
fronts . Pm if this sounds like something that might interest you.

Éire is technically correct.

ARTICLE 4 of the Constitution of Ireland
"The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland."

For clarity I use the term Republic of Ireland but as mentioned there is no such place in a constitutional sense.
