I'm a bit fed up of my spoked wheels on my GSA. Hard to clean, fiddly to get tyre pressure readings before I go out, 'the collapsing spoke wheel debacle', rust potential and maintenance hassle.

So I put in a cheeky bid on eBay for a set of 'nearly new' GS Alloy Wheels, apparently only covered 7700 miles. Won it at £580 for the set.

The set comes with nearly new tyres (michelin PR4), ABS ring, tyre pressure sensors, all balanced and unmarked. Just the brake discs that have been taken off (and transferred 'ironically' to a set of spoked wheels).

Is that a good price do you think? How much do BMW sell these alloys for?

They are in the GS Grey colour so should I consider repainting these black, or will grey look ok on a GSA Triple Black?

Any comments welcome..

I would say that is a good price you paid!

Regarding being fed up with spokes, well I am in same boat as you and have thought of changing wheels too.

Paint them same colour as fuel tank. That way they will spear les filthy than black.

Ok great, well lets see what actually turns up then. Should have them by Friday.

This bikes doesn't go off-road, so alloys would be better suited to me.

Sounds pretty good especially with good tires included :thumb2

Yeah that's what I thought, I'll put some pictures up once they're swapped over.

Fingers crossed the advert details are accurate :D

Sorry but a GS and even more so a GSA look so much better with spokes. :p

had them on my last GS... PITA!... so got one with alloys this time... much better IMO :)

Does anyone clean spokes? It gets some spray and a hose but that’s about it.

Winter wheels - I like it. Just need some winter tyres :)
Now you can clean the spoked wheels a bit at a time while sitting in front of the fire - should be done by late spring if you get a move on.

You may need to get the TPMS sensors registered with the system. They have internal serial numbers which they broadcast so the bike (or car, etc.) knows which wheel is reporting what.

Correct.

The TPMS Sensors transmit at 433 MHz to the RDC Control Unit. When the wheel is not spinning, they eventually shut down to save the battery life.

To reactivate them you need a EL-50448 activation device which transmits a signal at 150 kHz. This awakens the sensor temporarily. (EL-50448 can be bought off eBay for £5 :D)

I then use the MotoScan Ultimate Andriod App on my Smartphone to connect via OBD2 Port and my OBDLink-MX Bluetooth reader. This then allows you to read, assign and setup new sensors. JOB DONE.

Spokes are great, they're like legs ... they keep your arse off the ground, very handy things indeed :D

Fed up of cleaning them ... get a feckin' car then. They're part of the territory, comes with motorcycling, they're bloody great :thumb

I love my spokes :D

Spokes are cool, but not entirely problem free at the moment, hopefully the new 1250 has this problem sorted, as it has already been said it might just be a good idea to paint them, the paint might stop them getting loose.

Look for TRW Lucas brake discs and pads. Half the price of OEM and better.

I’m very happy with my black powdercoated alloys on my GSA.

We're they powerdercoated from factory, or did you do them yourself?

Any pictures please?

Ha ha ... the only ever time I had a problem with spokes coming lose was with my 1966 BSA A65L 'Lighting'. BSA used the rear wheel from the 1950's 500 Gold Star and quite simply it wasn't up to the awesome power of the 650 twin :D
