G/S pd top totty

At the end of the day,it’s each to there own,
Most, like me get limited time off for there’re yearly tour or whatever, I’d hate for my bike to crap itself on the autoroute 500 miles from home.
These bikes can be an investment,a daily ride or a tourer, but they are 30 plus years old and need to start, run and be reliable to be of any use

That’s a good summary - they can be all three at the same time and they surprisingly good off tarmac.

Hi Mike,
Just a question ...you say "contaminated oil" - what sort of contamination would be your guess? Would it be just dirty, old oil, or would it suggest some additional "stuff" in the oil, for example, metal particles (from bearings maybe) ?
Or even wrong oil type/viscosity etc ?
What would be your best guess?
Wonder what the gearbox is like then.....any known history to the bike ? What was the mileage on it, but that of course might not be accurate as speedo might have been Kilometers originally?
Just curious !!!

Thanks for taking the time to share this information Mike, appreciated.

The contamination will probably be from worn cam followers, worn out rockers etc

So we start looking more closely.:blast
Excess clearance between outer rotor and housing
Clearance between inner and outer rotor is 0.3mm
Max recommended is0.2mm
So now,we obviously need to look more closely at the main bearings

Reminds me of some of what you found on mine Mike!

Short motor built with new main bearings, bigends and timing chain kit.
Oh and new big end bolts and flywheel bolts

The customer wants a restored bike .
Tomorrow it gets hit with a smart bomb:thumby:

Whoever gets this bike from Mikeyboy will have a bike that will be good for a long time with just regular oil changes.

Not everyone wants a project. That's why we like these build threads, so we can watch others doing it. :thumby:

So is the customer having the bike restored then selling it ?

Hi Mike. Looking lovely.

How do you clean up the ally parts so nicely. Are they bead /sand blasted or what?
