Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Well, Im new to this dark side of the forum, since Im considering chopping in all of my BMW's for a Pan ST11. Ive currently got 3 BM's (1150GSA, R12C, R80GSPD). The GSA is my main touring ride, the R12C is an easy Sunday ride, and the R80 GSPD just as something to spanner.

Im considering a grand tour (France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Montenegro, North cape, Ireland  and Scotland) Over a few weeks / months who knows :nenau. Whilst the GSA is good fun for a few thousand miles, I think I will need more weather protection with similar reliability, range etc.

Ive considered the ST13, prices are dropping for both the ST11 & ST 13 that I believe they are fantastic value compared with a similar BMW - however I don't relish the idea of being stuck in the middle of BFE due to an electrical problem that will need a specialist recovery - I could be wrong? So Im currently more focused on the ST11.

Anyone think that having a crack at an ST11 is a bad choice ? Its probably not the forum to suggest it, but should I look at an RT for my troubles?:nenau

With the greatest of respect you have lovely bunch of motorcycles. You could solve your touring problems with a large screen on the gsa. JJH

Had well over 100 bikes in my time .....including about a dozen GS's in various forms..

Last GS was a 2010 Twicam GSA, which I indirectly part exed for a 2000 ST1100 with 60,000 miles on it....:)

I did 13 years on 1100 Pan police bikes, and did a considerable amount of courses on them, so I knew what excellent machines they were when I got this one. 8 months later and I'm still loving it...I've heard it described as an 'egg and chips' bike.. Not particularly exotic but it does the job :)

I also like the fact there's a bike standing in my garage that doesn't owe me a fortune, which help it doesn't get used in a while, but saying that I'm using it to commute through the winter this time .

It would would help if I got the seat sorted, as its its a bit unforgiving..and the rear shock will get replaced in the spring . The one I have also has bar risers and heated grips, along with a complete replacement stainless exhaust system. Just had the front brakes stripped and rebuilt and I don't expect any surprises before next spring :thumb2

Admittedly the GS's were all going to be keepers and I've been a far as Rome, Poland and Slovakia on trips mostly 2 up on GS's , and they were more than fine , but I've fallen in love with the ST1100.. Had a ride on a mate's ST1300 the year before last and although I'm sure they are nice bike , I personally didn't rate it , saying that it was only about 40 miles two up

the ST11 will be just as good on a long trip IMHO.

Had both the 1100 AND 1300 pan in the past. Would go for the 1300 rather than the older 1100. Did over 80,000 on the 1300 with NO problems.

One of the best ever

One of the best bikes ever built.

Ows me now't ...just love riding it, make sure you check the swinging arm, overhaul the brakes, descent shocker, job done. Mine? runs like a Rolls Royce. No rider aids ,just so much fun to ride, my 4th Royal British Legion Iron Butt on it next June :thumb2

They’re both brilliant bikes. I’ll be after my third st1300 soon.

A pan and egg and chips sounds good to me, lovely bikes comfy as hell, and the 2 or 3 inch lower seat height is handy for some.

Buy a car.... it’s over for you....

Did a lot of miles on a St1300(bought from att !!) Great bike totally reliable but a bit heavy two up......RT is a better bike, in fact it's one of the best bikes I've owned

Mind n check the alternator casings on the pan along with the swing arm. Apart from that it’s bulletproof.

Sorry, I can’t come up with a justification for owning a Pan, I maybe biased against and I haven’t ridden one but I’d go for an RT even if it was older.

Only buy a pan after you've given up sex.

I tried both. Pan every time for me.
