Mablethorpe Sand Racing

A good day out but wrap up warm.
Ridings a different matter.

I go to watch the air ambulance coming and going ...

I've been meaning to go all season and still haven't made it ~ thanks for the reminder Bisbee :thumb2

The guy, below, who built my Bully wheels races there every weekend and is highly competitive within his class. His name is Steve Lomas and he's only 70 years old..............

Anyone fancy a Saturday evening on the piss followed by watching beach racing the next day?

I’d have to try and work it around when the wife isn’t going to watch her beloved football team and weekends off for me but it could be a laugh. I know it’s easy for me because I’ll take our motorhome but that does mean I’d make tea and coffee to order if we can park close to the races.

In principle yes, that sounds a fab idea. In reality Amanda really wants to go so we'd already plotted an early Sunday morning start with (vegan) bacon sarnies and a flask of coffee when we get there for breakfast ~ she seems to think it'd be a romantic thing to do  Whatever, as she's not especially into bikes I'm glad she wants to go.

If we can find a date to suit though it'd be cool to meet up on the Sunday :)

I’ll wait until I’m back from my winter jolly on the bike and have sorted out my shifts on the next job then we can see what’s possible. It’s a fair old trek for us on a Sunday morning and for some reason the wife likes a Saturday night out then sleeping by a beach in a motorhome much more than she would if we were in a rag shed :nenau

It’s interesting that no one else copies Steve Lomas’ technique which is to ride wide and stay on clean sand (see photo) - the young and brave ride in the ruts and eventually come a cropper and usually an air ambulance customer

Steve Lomas also rebuilds his engine/s after each day’s racing, keeps his support van immaculate and uses it to drive his bump start rollers - a real quiet and unassuming “professional” racer/mechanic

I had a very long chat with him when I picked my wheels up and he was telling me all about his technique, I think a lot of how he rides is from his speedway days. We also worked out that, back in the day, we would have raced each other when racing Supermoto with NORA.

He also showed me one of the engines he was building; there wasn't very much in that engine that he hadn't either been modified or made from scratch by him, no bought in performance parts ~ like you say, a really nice and unassuming guy and consummate professional.

FFS what is it with everybody trying to organise shit at the moment?

First there's bloody Giles bumping me into committing to dates in Dam, then there's the Holy One wanting a date for frolicking in the woods and of course bloody Twizz and his spread sheets mapping out the entirety of 2019.........

..........and now you!!!

What the hell's going on?!?!?!?!?!

Coaches run every 30 minutes from Nottingham Broadmarsh to Mable', send me lots of money and I'll buy you a ticket :)

Other than that I'll have a ganders at the dates later as I'm a trifle hung over at the mo so you'll get little sense out of me right now; having said that, when A and I go I'm expecting it to be a fairly last minute decision..........I've had enough of planning for now :rob

It’s going to be close to a fortnight before I know what my work schedules are going to look like but as long as I’m getting one of those weekends off then it’s on the agenda. The only one I definitely can’t do is the 24th March because it appears that I might have a big birthday on the 21st and my wife is trying to organise a way for me to make a fool of myself that weekend :blast

There are 4 Sundays left. I can do any of them. If that's too much like planning for you then I apologise unreservedly.
Please never compare me to Thatcher's Fascist Bully Boy ever again. Ever.

NB: Interestingly the Tat trip has been organised for Sarah's birthday weekend so I can't make that & Twizz's fcuk up has been organised for my wedding anniversary week so I can't make that either. Do you people have access to the my diary of 'Dates I can't make' & plan your trips accordingly?
