Looking to do a couple of weekends in March, looking to ride Friday, camp then ride Saturday camp and home Sunday. Anyone recommend some good rides with places to camp?. I’m based in Essex.

Have you checked out the ride routes? They’ve got loads of good options that you can link together.

From Essex, up to the peaks or dales or down and across to the jurassic coast would be good options. Could even get down to the channel and have a day or 2 in France (not your original destination but hey).

Why stay in the UK?

Plenty of good campsites on the northern French coast or up to 100 miles or so inland. Train over, train back.

easy to get to the Welsh border area from Essex

Dom has camping at his Bike Stop near Leominster - take the A44 from Oxford which is a lovely route through the Cotswolds

You could stay here 2 nights and do a loop into Mid Wales on the Saturday. If you want a different place on the 2nd night then loop into Wales and return to the border area around Monmouth or Ross on Wye. Easy day to ride from Leominster across the A44 to the coast then back through the Brecon Beacons, eventually getting on the A40 to Monmouth. The main roads are very scenic but there are plenty of B road and single track road alternatives.

Get the date right and I would be happy to join you on the Saturday - Dom's is only an hour from my place and often a meeting place before (or scattering place after) a ride with mates.

Thanks guys, yeah I was thinking about dipping into wales. Dom’s bike stop looking inviting and like you say a nice ride through the cotswolds to get there.

this is very handy. Just found a couple of nice rides that I can pick up on my doorstep.

Cotswolds and all of Wales is always a good bet. Loads of camping options and some fantastic roads.

If the mileage isn’t too much then A44 to mid wales then pick up the Aberystwyth mountain road for something a bit different and totally stunning

Wales, Cotswolds, Lake District or Derbyshire would be my destinations I think...
Hills, dales, great scenery
Assuming there's no clash with school holidays, the roads and camp sites should be OK that time of year.
Used to go here quite a lot http://www.callowtop.co.uk/ (but a few years back), nice site with good facilities (incl a pub onsite), but can be overrun with kids during school hols.. Great for exploring the area. Some lovely places, and of course Matlock Bath is full of bikers on a Sunday. https://www.matlockmercury.co.uk/news/matlock-bath-a-mecca-for-bikers-1-7617034
Lake District is always a fave, but can be busy with holiday traffic...West side is quiet with awesome roads, the A595 on the West is fairly quiet with great scenery, and some lovely sections of flowing tarmac :)
I'm keen to explore more of the Yorkshire Dales this summer, always a big turn-out at Devils Bridge (Kirkby Lonsdale) at weekends...Some great biking roads round Sedburgh/Hawes (of course the Dent Event is later-on in May) http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/494677-The-Dent-Event-17th-to-19th-May-2019
