Hi all,

I have recently had to sell my R1200GS LC to help fund a car. I am now looking for a bike to ride me over until I can afford another GS and am strongly considering a Ducati Multistrada 1000DS.

I have found a 2006my in Black with 20k on clock. Part Ducati SH. Ohlins shock and Termignoni exhausts.

I know it’s not a GS, but my bike before GS was a KTM 990 SMT and the MTS 1000DS seems to be of similar ilk.

Does anyone have any real world experience with this bike?

Any thing to look out for or consider?

TIA

I had a 1000DS and really liked it. Great handling, as you’d expect. The standard seat and screen are not perfect and the fuel range could be better. Mine was a mistake, 7 previous owners should have put me off but it didn’t and it was trouble but I’d have another, preferably an 1100S with the Ohlins and oil cooled clutch. I had the servicing done by a local specialist and it wasn’t too expensive but in truth most jobs are quite easy, even the belt change - check out Youtube. I’ve done a virtual nut and bolt engine strip on a Pantah and it was straightforward. SA bearings are a bit tricky as they’re in the back of the crankcase and new ones should really be line reamed, and setting up the valve clearances needs access to a range of shims and a big bucket of patience. Give it a try. Good luck.
