Hi All,

Apologies if already covered many times but need some advice on a 2007 r1200gs ADV i'm looking at;

The bike has 75,000 miles and has history up until 50,000 miles.

- There is a leak coming from the front of the engine which is visible on both sides of the black plastic cover and coming from the upper part of the engine but as not my bike I cant do further investigation. Any ideas on what might be causing the leak?

- Also the bike runs and feels good, the clutch and brakes etc all feel good but at low revs/gear (1 & 2) there is a slight knock which the owner said was due to the boxer engine (a torque affect?)

Buyer is asking for ~5500€ which is too much in my view but as the bike feels and looks good aside from the two issues above I might be interested if I can get the bike for a decent price

All input welcome and thanks in advance

Steve

Its too much even for one without a leak. Theres plenty of stuff around without going for somthing like that. JJH

Walk away,

You can pick up lower mileage models for less

I bought a low priced bike, and it cost me £800 in parts in the first year

If i'd have put that onto my bottom line, i could have picked up a much later and better sorted one

Does it have luggage?
Is it a private sale or one of the DD back street dealers?
If it is running well than there shouldn't be a massive amount to worry about apart from the ABS pump.
You need to be a handy home mechanic with a bike that age but if you are than you will find the GS is a ridiculously easy bike to work on.
That age Adventure GS carry a premium over the standard GS of about €1000
What part of the country are you in?

Bought a 2008GS last year with similar mileage, it had knocking like you describe, last week the driveshaft seized.

I am on my second 2007 GSA and they have both "weeped" oil at the front engine cover.

5.5k is a decent price for a 2007.
It's a lottery with regards to possible failures...

ABS
Drive shaft
Final drive
heated grips
fuel strip

If comparing prices to UK prices.......factor in the exchange rate the VRT and the physical cost of going to get it. Also the UK ones of that vintage will be more corroded than one that has spent it's life in Ireland.

Thanks for the replies, it is a private seller who seems ok and I have spoken to the mechanic (works on and services primarily BMW's in Dublin and has a good rep) who worked on it up until 50k miles and he said it was a good bike.

I might have another look but think I will only be interested if price drops significantly. I do all my own work on bikes last 20- years but not looking for a project either :D

Thanks for the info!

Is it the one advertised for €5750 and 70,000miles on Done Deal ??

Younger06 - yep that's the one, do you know the bike?

A little birdy once told me that bike has had....

ABS refurbed in 2016
Genuine heated grips 2016
New drive shaft 2017
New Final drive 2017
Genuine rear LED conversion 2016

All at considerable expense to the person it belonged to at the time (allegedly your honor)

This is all good news!!

It's done 25k miles since.... Even the worst old snotter was once a good bike earlier in it's life.

A friend had an untraceable oil leak. BMW "specialist" gave up. I removed the petrol tank and alternator belt covers to find oil p***ing out from the crank position sensor that sits right up at the top. His was recoverable but if it's really bad, the bike will need a new front engine cover.
