I have edited the title and stuck the thread. This will give anyone and everyone a common link to meeting up or whatever it is you fancy doing.

We are going over a bit earlier, second week of May, we were in Arromanches the week before the 70th anniversary celebrations, place was packed, should be a great tribute.

Lots of road closures and restricted access on the days both sides of 6th June around the beaches so forgive me for stating the obvious but make sure your booked in where you want to be on the day or you may struggle to get close.

Adrian at Normandy Beach hotel is a great source of local intel, he does a lot of the event organising and supports a lot of vets.

We got caught out on a big year, Obama was there. However I am on the regiment association so will have access cards. This year will be massive. Would be great to meet up with some other tossers on a beach for a beer !

I am organising a week over there from the 1st - 8th June, ... http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/483301-75th-D-Day-Anniversary-June-1st-8th-2019...

Unfortunately the trip is now fully booked with 65 booked in, but can add links and tips to this thread, for instance there is a opportunity to visit Caen Airfield to view / photograph the 30 plus Dakota's that will parked up there on Friday the 7th June Link for tickets;

https://tickets.daksovernormandy.com/

Keep an eye on the website, shortly you will be able to book a flight over Normandy in a Dakota as well

Cheers Mark.
Knowing you lot are there, maybe drop in to meet you and share a beer .

Just back from a trip around Normandy and would recommend the museum Memorial de Montormel which is on the ridge the Poles held in the Falaise pocket. You can then ride down to the ford at Moissy where a German army tried to cross the river. I managed to cross it but then no one was shooting at me. The guide at the museum was excellent and described the battle that left thousands dead and the water polluted for 2 years after the war.

There seems to be a few going. Ill see you on the beach !

35 years to the day since i was on Omaha beech in front of the assembled heads of state.

It was very hot and a long long time to stand still. The Yanks just kept the front rank whilst the rest went and paddled and ate ice cream we, being British stayed put

At the time it was a PITA but looking back I am very proud to have done it

We visited the Merville Batterie yesterday and then Sannerville Drop Zone to see the Dakota’s.

There were a lot of veterans there, many of whom had travelled by London taxis (great bit of charity work there by the black cab drivers)

The Greatest Generation! Thanks for sharing. Were the jumpers civvies or military?

The Greatest Generation! Thanks for sharing. Were the jumpers civvies or military?

The first group earlier in the afternoon were military, plus a few D-Day veterans who did tandem jumps (all in their mid-90’s).

The later group jumping from the Dakota’s were mainly civilians.
