Found ouple of minutes to dismount the shock main seal is gone...
This is preaty straight forward job as they are emulsion type shock (oil and nitrogen in the same chamber)
Next Strip it down clean all the parts and wait for the seals couple of days...
Assembling should be fun I will keep you updated soon as...
By the way oil looks like mud

An interesting post :bow

When you get to it, would it be possible to share the information with regards to where to get new seals, torque values and volume and type of oil, as well as how to refill the nitrogen? :)

As an aside, Ktech rate the showa better build quality than the wp, and easier to upgrade.

I've had a chance to rebuild bouth of them and yes Showa unit comes with external reservoir so this is much better then emulsion type shock however sealheads and valving are very similar Showa is using metal/teflon coated friction bands and WP plastic(teflon) bands witch are wearing much quicker

Today was the day ... All the parts are on the table
Seals made by K-tech BEST YOU CAN GET
Oil seal mede of Viton☆ not NBR !
So first thing first !
To make this work I needed to add Nitrogen valve to the shock body.
I use trusted RaceTech valve expensive but very low profile and is perfect for this aplication. I'VE also made the washer to protect the top of the valve it's only 2mm thick so should affect the riding high.
New bush was pressed in to the sealhed follow by the washer and seals.
130ML of Motul full synthetic oil goes in to the shock body then piston and sealhead follow wohle assembly is vented and shock is recharged with Nitrogen to 110Psi
And is god as new or prapobly betterthen new ...

Nice work, if/when I need a rebuild, I’ll get in touch

I had a Yamaha rear shock rebuilt. It was nothing special but neither was the bike. The technician drilled and tapped the shock body to fit the gas valve. I guess it was cheap enough kit to not have uber light tubing.

Wilbers expect their shocks to be serviced (rebuilt with new oil and wearing parts) every 15,000 miles. Failure to do that voids the warranty.

Hyperpro are the same; as were K Tech for my Aprilia and Ducati.

You change your final drive/gearbox how often ? Same for shocks.

130ml of oil is expected to handle the serious hammering of a road wheel on UK roads yet never complain - ever.

I'd say 15K to maintain the warranty or perhaps 20K (max) if you are outside that is all it can reasonably be expected to cope with.

Car shocks are lower spec than bike parts (wider internal clearances) so they'll cope for longer and when the do fail are cheap enough to replace with new parts. But anything with more than 30K under its wheels is well past its best.

Anyone know of contact details for Denzo as I have a pair of R1100RS shocks having covered 68,000 miles which require an overhaul?
