Arrow exhaust system

Hi
I am on the verge of buying a complete arrow system, has anyone got one, headers and can?
What does it sound like and any noticeable performance gains?

Hi my mate has arrow full system on his wc, sounds lovely and look:thumbs the part, With the full system you gain about 5to 6 bhp , Hope this helps
 
I gained 6BHP from just the headers :thumb Arrow claim 9BHP for the system and 2 BHP for just the can, so my dyno results sound about right.

The only problem is it surges a little at very low constant loads (if you try holding 2k in 2nd / 3rd)

The fuelling at the top end is OK on WOT, and with the Clutch Jumper Mod the bottom end is about spot on as well, but really it needs an ECU flash to get it running really sweet.

A power commander could also sort the fuelling and combined with the CJM mod would give a great power gain through the range - but a Power Commander with the O2 optimsers costs more than a Flash.

Mine is in for an ECU Flash this weekend and I will post the result.

Possibly meet up at some point, but I am off to Essex for the ECU FLash on Saturday and have no idea when I will be back.

Also I do not have an end can, I got the Arrow headers cheap second hand but still have the Yamaha end can so it is still fairly muffled, not so bothered about an end can as the headers carry most the restrictions so planning to wait until a used one comes up at a good price.
 
I have the end can at the moment, and may get the headers and a reflash if I decide the bike is a keeper. With the baffle it sounds fruity, and without the baffle it is deep and lovely. I am sure you will enjoy!

Good job, I have arrow headers@mivv titainium can, Its louder than the arrow ,But both sound great, you will have to keep baffle in as its wayyyyy to loud ,Hope u like it. :thumb
 
Finally today my full Arrow system arrived from Italy, 2 weeks late but over a saving of £100.
Took me just over an hour to fit, sounds nicer with a nice over run flutter, also seems to pull much nicer. :thumb2

Get an ECU flash and it will pull your arms out of your sockets from tickover :thumb

You may also find with the full system it surges a little around 2,000 rpm on a steady throttle in 1st - 4th, not a problem on open roads.

The Clutch Jumper mod will help a little with fuelling down low as it richens it up a shade (as well as removing the fly by wire restrictions) but the Flash is the best solution, or flash + PC5 if your really wealthy.
 
I used the bike for work today and found the idle now hunts since fitting this.
I can't really justify the cost of ECU reflash so thinking about putting the OEM headers back on and just using the Arrow tail pipe. :tears

If your not running a cat then you might need to consider O2 sensor eliminators to fool the ECU into thinking its still there instead of it trying to adjust the mixture (or a reflash).

They don't work that well - but I have a set somewhere if you want to try them.

The Exhaust system costs far more than a Flash and gives a 8-9% gain (mainly at the top end)

The Flash on stock pipes gives a 10% - 40% power gain between 2k and 5k in 1st - 3rd gears and costs about half of the Exhaust system.

The Flash gives a much better improvement for a much lower outlay so I dunno how you can justify £600 to make your bike run badly, but not £350 to massively improve real world performance :blast


If you want to try the optimisers let me know, my understanding is many modern ECU's do not like a fixed signal and they treat optimisers like a failed O2 sensor and default to a map that makes the bike suck again after a while - this is why Dynojet had to develop their optimiser system as it alters readings rather than fixing them, the ECU see's a constantly changing signal and is a happy box of tricks.
 
I didn't pay anywhere near £600 for the system.

I'm not looking for massive performance improvements, if I wanted to tear it up I'd have a R1 :rob
I do ride off road and want to have good control over the power, I used to have a CR250 that someone had done something to and was just insane and impossible to keep under control.

I had 2 things I wanted to address, firstly the sound, this is an XT and is far too quite as stock, and I was looking for a few more horses.
Yes I should have done a bit more research (in reply to your post on the S10 forums), but when I did the same mod to my GSA it was perfect.

I have put the OEM headers back on with the Arrow TP and the tone is just right, I haven't ridden it yet as it started to rain, maybe tomorrow.

So why didn't I do the ECU? Good question, the last time I looked into this it involved sending it away and wait for it to come back, knowing my luck it would get lost in the post...
Is there somewhere in the UK that now does this?

GS Bloke...do you mind if I ask where or how you managed to get a cheap arrow system from Italy / France ( you mention both countries , so not sure which one you mean ) ? I'm after some headers, but not at the UK prices !!

Found the seller on ebay, had a problem with the delivery taking over 2 weeks longer than it should have so he gave me a 10% refund which brought the saving right up, so I paid approx £480 :thumb

I may sell mine, depending how it is with the OEM headers......
 
Race Engineering in Kent will do the Flash on a ride-in / ride-out basis.

The hunting is still just about there, but on my bike it reduced it about 90%, originally it felt like it was from 5% - 15% throttle from 1900 - 2300 RPM, it now feels more like 5%-10% throttle from 2000 - 2100 rpm.

On the road it is now really easy to avoid the affected area, but it seems with a full system you still need a PC-5 to completely eliminate this.

You should still consider the Flash as it massively improves the throttle response and makes it far more linear and more predictable as you get the throttle you dial in, instead of whatever the bike decides to offer up which changes with each gear.

If top end is not so important you could flog the headers, but once I saw the extra power (Both on the dyno and the much more free breathing feel on the road) I did not want to hand it back :D

With the OEM headers it is much better (for my setup and requirements), more low/mid range power, felt flat with the Arrow headers, also the idle is nice and smooth.
Had to rag the wire mesh off the exit pipe to get the Arrow TP to fit the OEM pipe which was a bit scary as once this was done I can't fit the OEM silencer again.
The tone is much nicer as well, it was a bit loud with the Arrow headers.
So I expect I will sell the Arrow headers and look into the ECU flash.

Hi mate,

I have just the Arrow silencer and the reflash and I am really pleased. In spite of all the strong opinions, there is no right or wrong way to go, just what you are happy with. I prefer the sound of the Arrow without the baffle as it is deeper and rather fruity and not much louder than with the baffle in.

I could have gone for the headers, but I just didn't see the point for my kind of riding. No surging or other residual issues, and tht is worth missing out on a few horses that i wont miss. Also I like to put my bikes back to as near standard as possible when I sell them, and i tend to keep them for 2 or 3 years. The guys at Race Engineering said they would not be happy to have a bike with a reflash designed for a full Arrow system going back to the stock exhaust. I would not want to sell a poorly running bike to someone.

Anyway, I hope you really enjoy the bike and here's hoping for a summer at some point! :)
