Just about to get a Quest and have taken off the Dakar screen and fitted a Wunderlich Ergo tall screen. As you may know it is very upright and there may be space to mount the GPS above the instruments using the two highest of the 4 screen mounts (it's an 04 version). Does anyone know of a Ram mount or something else that I could use in that position, as I will have to move my head down to see below the instruments which is awkward/ dangerous.

That's definitely the place for your Quest,as you say its much closer to your line of sight than on the bars.
However I don't know of a mount,I made my own. :D
It fastens to the top two screen fixing holes.(02 Dakar).I used longer bolts to move the (standard)screen into a more upright position and the Quest fits into the available space. The bracket is adjustable for angle to eliminate reflections in the screen and uses a RAM holder and QPAC.
Probably not much help I know but persevere with the idea,it's worth it!Maybe a local fabricating shop could make one?
Good luck,
Tony

Any chance of a photo. I can always give you my Email address if you want to send them direct?

I'd like some pictures too. I made a mount out of a bit of pipe which I bent and flattened at the ends to go under the top two screen bolts. It's a bit crap though, I'd rather something a bit more substantial.
I can't understand why people want theirs mounted on their handlebars, it's far too far away from line of sight of the road.

Pics

I went out and removed the screen and took some pics but unfortunately due to PC probs I can't upload them :spitfire
When I get it sorted,I'll post 'em.

Hi Tony, Good timing, I just finished fitting a bracket that I made yesterday out of a 30mm strip of stainless steel that is 3mm thick. I have no vice so it was a struggle. Had to use a sledge hammer on it at one stage! It will put the quest in just the same position as yours though, which is about perfect. How have you wired in the Qpac? I Have one with the bare ends that I intend to connect to a switched live. If youv'e done it the same way can you let me know details as I've not dismantled anything on a bike for 15 years. I'll be fine with the electrical side, its just finding the best route and location of connection point. I'll take some pics and post on this thread. Mark

Hello Mark,
I intended mine as a prototype to be made from stainless eventually but I think that it was another good intention that won't happen!
It's connected via an accessory socket which is wired directly to the battery (through a fuse)

I made a mount for my R1150RT and found that by sandwiching it between the RAM holder and the QPAC there was less cantilever moment and therefore less shake/vibration. Mind you there has to be room behind the screen to accomodate it all

Now why didn't I think of that! :clap
