Hi everyone I am looking for some feedback regarding fault recently that came up on my screen of my BMW GSA 1250 with 2200 miles on it.

I was up north on the Moray coast and just turning on to a major road from a minor road when bike stalled. I am a big lad and managed to get my right foot down and keep the bike upright and restart bike and ride across the junction and park in on left side of road. As soon as bike restarted after stalling I had the fault " Fault in engine Control. Onward Journey possible ride carefully to next specialised workshop" which would not go away even when switching bike off/on, now I firmly believe message has something to do with stalling issue as too much of a coincidence IMHO.

Rode bike back to Aviemore about 60 miles although no further stalling issues bike did continue to run rough sometimes sporadically. Next day rode from Aviemore home to Alloa although no real issues warning still there and bike was not running correctly and just did not run cleanly all the time.

Called dealer in Carlisle and they came and picked bike up. Spoke to dealer yesterday and they said that they cleared the fault, which they advised came back as a fuel pump fault and were going to test ride bike. At that point I advised dealer that unless they at least changed fuel pump I would not accept bike back and consider rejection of bike under sale of goods act.

I appreciate that things breakdown and that vehicles cannot be guaranteed to not breakdown. Having said that it wasn't fun trying to hold a bike this size up turning right at a junction and to be honest not really something I want to repeat as the safety considerations don't really bear contemplation.

To be fair to dealer they seem to be on my side and fully agree with my point of view and are going to speak to BMW regarding this matter and my thoughts on it and to see what if any comparable issues other UK owners /dealers have had.

My reason for this post are there seem to be a number of other owners with similar message on their bikes and different remedies, having done a simple Google search of which I have advised Carlisle BMW of other reported owners issues after searching internet.

I would really like to hear from other owners who have suffered similar fault messages and what the remedy taken by their dealers was. Carlisle BMW says they have not come across this issue or message before, hence their reason for talking to BMW to get some feedback.

I would really appreciate your feedback.

Did you stall it? I had a similar problem leaving a car ferry, possibly I stalled the engine then got the same message. Rode 200 miles before diagnosis. Was told the fault was no longer present, maybe a glitch. Bike, touching wood, is running perfectly.

Never stalled, bike just delivered back from dealer, new fuel pump fitted spent 12 days in dealers being investigated and awaiting new fuel pump from Germany.

Same error whilst in Ireland on tour.

Same error when I stopped to fuel up at a petrol station in Ireland in Tralee. An error message came on as I switched off the bike.

Finished the day about 200 miles, then next day was advised to take to BMW in Cork, was told it was a Software Update required. No more info is available. 2+hrs later on way back to Tralee. Very frustrating.

Someone local had his new 1250 breakdown twice, first dealer replaced fuel pump (possibly same recorded fault) only for it to do the same thing again .
Apparently the fuel pump thing was an erroneous fault and the bike needed a full software update

Stalled mine when starting from cold this morning. As I’m in the fatherland I’m heading to my nearest Motorrad dealer 8.7 kms away. I have just ridden a good hour at Autobahn speeds in an attempt to reset it. More later

Called in at Stilgenbauer Von-Humboldt-Straße nr Heppenheim. Bike pushed in to the workshop with in 2 minutes of arriving. The service man told me it’s a known fault and in the fatherland they will be a software upping November and to see my local dealer.

Hi the same problem just show up on my TFT screen. Are you sort out your problem with BMW? Please let me know I'm worries about this bike now. Thanks

I had the same with my 1250gsa at 6000 miles and then 7500 miles. First time it happened was on Aug on one of the 30+ deg days we had, bike was parked at work in the shade all day, turned on the bike and the same message flashed up on the dash. Ride bike home no dramas or worries everything worked as it should (no stalling of the engine) took it local dealer next day who connected it up diagnosed exhaust flap and right lambda sensor which under warranty was replaced with new headers as well.

Jump forward to end of Sept travelling home from work on the motorway cruise control engaged at 75, message flashed up on dash, again get home no worries everything behaving as per normal, speak to dealer and due to work I’m unable to get to them until beginning of November, so continue to use bike with advice of “if it goes into a limp mode, then get it recovered to us” as well as service they keep the bike for 10 days (K1600B as a replacement) after 10days it is given back to me with 2 new lambda sensors (fuel pump not touched).

For last month of useage no issues what so ever, no messages on dash apart from low fuel. Bike is behaving perfectly.
According to my dealer the new lambda sensors are even more sensitive than previous ones used, and the exhaust flap is even more sensitive to soot deposits.

Yes it was annoying, but you’ll hear nothing but praise for the mothership and my stealer, although when the bike goes out of warranty I may be saying something different.

I was out on my 1250 last week and managed to get the mileage up to 287 miles , came to it this morning getting it ready for a decent 200 plus mile run tomorrow.

Wanted to start the bike up to run it for a minute or so and then check the oil, not a chance everything seemed alright until I pressed the button and it basically ' burped' and the above warning appeared on the dash.

First thought was battery so I plugged in my BMW charger which showed 13.1 volts , so I unplugged the charger and tried to start it and it went first press of the button and no faults shown on the tft screen ?

Switched it back off and plugged in the charger and it was up to an indicated 100% charged within 10 minutes, so I assume the charger is fine .

It is in for its first service in 2 weeks time so will see what they say

Stuck bike on gs911 and fault code ' 3a1002 exhaust flap servomotor 1 output stage, open circuit , The fault is not present now ' pops up

did you start it in gear? I have had a few of these on my 2019 gsa. first couple of times the bike struggled to turn over off the starter and threw that same warning. took it bmw who found nothing. did it again , back to bmw who this time changed the fuel pump, i dont think it was the pump tbh but as its under warranty I let them do it. I'm sure this was a battery issue. Only bloody come on again! back a bloody gain to bmw who now recon the exhaust valve stuck very briefly on start up but wont replace it because the fault wasnt present for long enough..tremendous! the bike runs out of warranty in 6 months and their super extendo warranty doesnt cover the exhaust servo....might sell it and buy something less hopeless

In neutral, sidestand down and clutch pulled in

Dito, fault not present when plugged in to the dealers computer during service a few weeks ago. Advice: take a photo when the message comes up on the screen.
This w/d the message comes up again when I start the bike (in neutral), however when I revved the engine the fault cleared. I can only assume is the Exhaust Flap playing up.
