Hi I have a Zumo 500,

I'm confused to which app to use to plan trips, I never done this before so sorry if its annoying but I've read all kinds of post regarding base camp / map source / poi

just been on the garmin site and the zumo 500 is now unsupported, so before I start down loading apps can someone advise which is more suitable for planning trips.

And unfortunately I don't have the funds for a new satnav at the moment

The PC i'm using is running windows 8.1.

sorry to be a pain.

Jay

From memory:

Take the serial # from the base of the zumo
Go to Garmin's website.
Register
Install Basecamp on computer (think you have to install mapexpress from the site)
Plug in your zumo - basecamp will recognise it.
Backward-install the mapping from the Zumo to Basecamp.

Now - you should have all the mapping on your computer.

Have a look on here for the tutorials on moving forward from there - using Basecamp.

Backward install? Does that remove the maps from the unit or simply send a copy to the PC?

I struggle with basecamp, unless you use it often it can be a bit complicated. Recently came across motogoloco.com or was it co.uk, anyway, it's quick and simple to use. Once you've registered you can create, save and upload your route to your sat nav.

Hope it helps.
