Only managed to get babysitter for Skye today so set off this morning at 7:30 to join in the road runs. Weather was terrible all the way up with big signposts warning of rain and floods The only dry patch of road I saw was at Kirrimuir and that was only for about 2 miles.
Arrived at GOC and was greated by quite a few folk milling about the bikes. Some other folk were looking the worse for wear and not in a fit state for a road run I joined Ronno and GC in the first group going on the long run. never been on a Drop off ride system run before but soon got into the swing of it and found it good. Weather still hand't improved and as we went up the Cairn O'Mount and in fact got so misty we could hardly see the bike infront. Wee stop at the viewpoint, well that's what Ronno told us it was but we could not see any view.
He promised us sunshine over the hill and to our surprise we actually got about ten minutes riding on great dry roads (no sun though ) before we were back in pouring rain. We had a few more stops at Ballater, Braemar, Balmoral (not the only Castle we visited) and Spittal of Glenshee were continued our wet weather riding kit reviews. I enjoyed some great stretches on the way down through to Braemar and Glenshee following Ronno and on some of the back roads over to Kirriemuir following Grizzly. GC kept rearguard to make sure none of got lost. We even had some off-road riding and some fording, so quite a day.
I followed everyone back to the hotel and after saying my goodbyes I headed back down the road in even worse rain than in the morning. Big holdups on the M80 North of Cumbernauld slowed me right down, in fact I nearly came to a halt when some idiot pulled out right infront of me. Took a wee diversion off the M80 and ended up in a tailback at Kylsyth due to flooding. Anyway made it back home about 8pm. Over 12 hours, most of it in the saddle and plenty more miles on the clock. My GS was fantastic in all conditions, boy do I love this bike.
Despite the weather I really enjoyed the day. the runs were good with plenty of stop to socialise. I only knew a couple of people so it was nice to meet so many other fellow tossers. I look forward to another run soon. Thanks everybody.
